Job Posting for History Instructor at San Francisco University High School

At San Francisco University High School, we believe that the deepest learning requires collaboration among people who embody a diversity of backgrounds, beliefs, experiences, and perspectives. In order to build and sustain a community that is comprised of a wide range of social and cultural identities, we must continually engage in furthering our self-knowledge, equity literacy, and ability to communicate effectively across differences. We challenge ourselves to do this work on both a personal and institutional level, recognizing that our community is part of a larger and more complex world.

We are seeking a full time instructor to teach our History I: Non-Western Civilizations and Honors US History classes, as well as senior electives that they design. They should be comfortable teaching and emphasizing research and writing, and expertise in East Asian history would be ideal. Candidates should also have experience talking about race and identity and reflecting on the impact of their own identity on their teaching. While candidates should be prepared to develop their own courses, they should also demonstrate the capacity for collaboration with a teaching team and aligning with existing curriculum in core classes. Experience with interdisciplinary or ethnic studies is welcomed.

San Francisco University High School is a college preparatory school. We seek teachers who are thoroughly educated in their disciplines, who are devoted to the love of learning, and who will contribute to the school's invigorating intellectual climate. Throughout the school, we seek to hire adults who are stimulating and supportive in their work with students and who share our belief in the moral and educational value of diversity.

To apply for this position, please prepare a resume, cover letter, and a portfolio including a sample syllabus and lesson plans, sample graded student work, and anything else you would like to include that can give the search committee a sense of your teaching. Please submit all materials using the online application.
