Job Description: Preschool Teacher (ages 1-3)

Reports to: Academy Director

Terms of Employment: 12-month position

Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt

Primary Purpose: The Preschool Teacher is responsible for managing all aspects of their classroom while maintaining a warm and friendly environment and ensuring a quality child-centered program. The Teacher is responsible for ensuring a safe environment for young children, creating and implementing lesson plans, communicating with parents and upholding the center’s reputation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalency.
  • CPR and First Aid required
  • 1 Year of Preschool Teacher experience preferred.
  • Passion for early childhood education.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure a safe, happy, and stimulating environment for children.
  • Responsible for the overall supervision and daily functions of their classrooms
  • Responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans
  • Observes all rules and regulations at Padawan Academy and DCF regulations.
  • Assesses each child's developmental needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintains a well-kept classroom that encourages children to create, explore and make decisions with confidence.
  • Attends all required staff meetings, workshops and/or school functions.
  • Assists in other capacities that the Academy Director, or designee, determines is necessary.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, attitude, and work ethic at all times.
  • Has the ability to maintain a positive attitude towards staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Has the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Possesses problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
  • Possesses strong customer service skills.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills: Oral (including presentations), Written, Interpersonal (active listening), Negotiating and Influencing.
  • Is proactive and takes initiative. Thinks creatively. Drives projects to completion. Insists on the highest level of quality.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Maintain emotional control under stressful situations.
  • Work with frequent interruptions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling.
  • Requires sitting, standing, running, walking, use of stairs, and moving about during the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds
