Job Summary
Under the direction of the Sr. AD for Advancement, the Associate AD for Major Gifts identifies, qualifies, cultivates, asks, and stewards donors/prospects for major gifts ($25,000 ) as well as annual gifts ($5,000 ). Additionally, the Associate AD for Major Gifts will actively visit alumni and friends of San Jose State University to secure funding for prioritized projects and growth of the Athletics annual fund program. This includes building a robust prospect pool, prioritizing new prospects for giving to Athletics capital projects, annual giving or other prioritized projects as established by the Director of Athletics.
The Associate AD for Major Gifts will lead the Athletics Development team in establishing an effective estate-giving program, major gifts society, endowment program, and the associated stewardship processes to build an effective major gifts program for San Jose State Athletics and One Spartan Nation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 75-100 prospects for major gifts ($25,000 ) and leadership annual giving donations. Develop, document and implement engagement and solicitation strategy for each assigned prospect.
- Prepare written proposals, information materials, gift illustrations and other materials needed to secure major gifts and multi-year pledges.
- Develop, implement, and manage an Athletics major gift stewardship society in concert with Sr. Associate Athletics Director of Advancement.
- Actively Collaborate with Corporate and Foundation Relations to initiate engagement between downtown San Jose and Silicon Valley business leaders and SJSU Athletics.
- Actively collaborate with Planned Giving and University Advancement major gift officers in preparing and communicating solicitation strategies for assigned prospects in portfolio. Ensure that university guidelines are adhered to, embracing high ethical and moral standards of behavior.
- Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and Sr. Deputy AD to strategically fill the AD's suite for Football and away game travel for Football (and other specified road games).
- Identify major gift prospects for Athletics priority projects for proper advancement in the Development process.
- Assist the Sr. Associate AD for Advancement with the development of fundraising goals, program plans and relevant budgets.
- Assist the Sr. Associate AD for Advancement and collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director for Development to develop strategies to increase membership acquisition and retention for the Athletics annual giving program. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to build meaningful relationships of trust that lead to philanthropic giving to San Jose State Athletics
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Sensitivity and understanding of Title IX issues, and an innate ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Skillful in networking and opening doors as well as developing donor-centric cultivation and solicitation strategies
- Ability to navigate the institution/assigned unit and make the appropriate match for donor interests
- Ability to engage and support volunteer leadership with their efforts in fundraising, consultation, and advocacy
- Skillful in successfully managing multiple projects on tight deadlines and under pressure in a dynamic and open environment
- Knowledge of the dynamics that athletes and coaches must navigate in higher education
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I (FBS) intercollegiate athletics
- Knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations
- Proficient in Google docs and ability to learn tech platforms as needed
- Knowledge of the academic enterprise and the ability to articulate academic values internally and externally

Classification: Administrator II
Anticipated Hiring Range: $9,000/month - $9,363/month
CSU Salary Range: $4,583/month - $14,713/month
