San Luis Ambulance (SLA), is a privately owned Emergency and Non-emergency ambulance service, dedicated to saving lives. SLA is commitment to ensure patient advocacy, while maintaining the highest standard of excellence in pre-hospital patient care.

San Luis Ambulance employs over 140 staff members including Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, Registered Nurses and other office support staff. There are eight crew stations located throughout the San Luis Obispo County, for rapid response to 911 calls.

SLA is seeking Full-time and Reserve (Part-time) EMT’s. This position will be working in San Luis Obispo County. This position is non-exempt hourly position, eligible for overtime.

JOB SUMMARY: An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B), assists Paramedic partners with the delivery of Advanced Life Support (ALS) care.

ESSENTAIL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

  • When required, assess each call situation to determine the best course of action and the most appropriate patient BLS treatment protocol.
  • Use medical supplies, equipment and procedures including, but not limited to, spinal immobilization equipment, oxygen administration equipment, suction devices and CPR and other procedures as required to provide the highest quality pre-hospital patient care.
  • Assist paramedic partners with the delivery of ALS care. Assistance in this regard includes, but is not limited to, IV preparation, taking vital signs, placing patient on the EKG monitor and pulse oximetry.
  • Ability to triage patients utilizing the SLOCO EMSA approved triage system (START).
  • Provide patient care according to SLA and SLOCO EMSA policies and protocols.
  • Lift and move patients as required to facilitate transport and treatment.
  • Communicate with base station hospitals and other receiving facilities to receive medical direction and to provide critical patient care information.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a current California Driver’s License.
  • Possess a current SLO County EMT certification.
  • Driving record in compliance with SLA policy regarding insurability.
  • Possess a High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Possess a current CPR certification.
  • Possess a current California Ambulance Driver’s License.
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
