What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a highly motivated engineer/scientist to assist with astrodynamics / orbital mechanics advancements. This will likely include a broad range of challenging technical problems associated propagation, orbit determination, and statistics. The successful candidate will work in an innovative, multi-disciplinary team environment to develop and integrate solutions for our national security!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Formulate algorithmic approaches to solve data analysis tasks. Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code for systems.
Design and implement orbital mechanics code for various applications.
Assist other staff as a contributor on both customer and internally funded projects.
Develop and execute test plans, integrate hardware and software, conduct experiments, and analyze results to advise government sponsor decisions.
Troubleshoot issues with existing code and collaborate with colleagues to resolve technical challenges.
Write proposals for internally or externally funded R&D projects.
Summarize and present results to other staff and sponsors and develop papers and briefings for publication.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify project requirements and develop solutions that meet those needs.
Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in astrodynamics / orbital mechanics fields
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite
Qualifications We Require:
(1) Consideration for this position requires one of the following:
Doctorate
Master's and one (1) year of relevant work experience
Bachelor's and five (5) years of relevant work experience
Highest awarded college degree must be in a related STEM field such as Astrodynamics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Science, or Software Engineering.
(2) Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q/SCI clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
Graduate degree in Computer Science or a highly related field with extensive programming experience.
Active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance with SCI.
Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile).
Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in diverse teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills.
Experience coding and delivering algorithms in C .
Experience performing rigorous analysis and algorithm development with large volumes of sensor data, including knowledge and experience in relevant programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, IDL, R, Scala, Julia, Rust, C/C , or other relevant programming languages.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Salary Range:
$109,000 - $217,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
