Director, Manufacturing Engineering

We are currently recruiting highly qualified candidates, whose background and career goals meet our needs, for the following position in our Huntsville, AL facility. Please note that due to our Department of Defense contract requirements, U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED.

The person in this position will lead and direct engineering activities in support of the manufacturing plant while driving and coordinating multiple initiatives to improve site performance. The scope of this role will include support to daily production, process improvements, and identifying the necessary equipment and processes to produce quality products. Additional responsibilities will include managing the organization through several new process improvement initiatives as well as launch new initiatives in support of production operations.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:

The candidate will manage and coordinate a multi-disciplined team of engineers, technicians, managers who support the following areas,

• Manufacturing floor processes that will optimize the use of equipment and resources while controlling and reducing overall factory costs.

• Troubleshoot and repair of manufacturing process problems related to tooling, consumables, supplies, and related software systems (i.e. programs, program databases, reference lists, etc.).

• Successfully develop new production processes, work instructions, procedures, and providing training when needed to ISO and AS9100 D standards.

• Manage continuous improvement programs and implement Lean Manufacturing Concepts

• Be comfortable "rolling up the sleeves" to diagnose issues and launch initiatives to fix or enhance operational execution while also developing strategic initiatives to help improve future site performance.

• Provide guidance on the use of automation to improve the manufacturing process and improve quality.

• Define methods for manual or second assembly Ops, Mechanical assembly, and support ESD Controls and procedures in a modern facility.

• Through a thorough understanding of the capabilities in the industry, assist in the development and implementation of a technical roadmap and the management of capital aquisition.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or other Engineering disciplines strongly desired.

• Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the design, execution and sustaining of manufacturing processes and technology

• Detailed understanding of the SMT, coatings and mechanical assembly process are highly desirable

• Knowledge of financial budgeting and acumen to evaluate the ROI of various innovative technologies and make financial and technical based recommendations to the business.

• Proven track record of successfully leading, developing, and mentoring highly educated, skilled engineers in a global environment.

• High ethical standards. Models and supports the organization’s goals and values; adapts to changing conditions; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles.

• Strong combination of technical, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

• Proficiency in managing, tracking, and reporting technical and cost performance metrics

• Extensive experience in strategic planning and project management.

• Demonstrated success in technical and managerial leadership in designing and implementing manufacturing processes that meet cost, productivity, and run rate expectations while satisfying product quality and capability expectations.

• Proven success in influencing management strategic decisions to invest in innovative technology platforms.

• Extensive experience in utilizing Six Sigma tools to develop new processes, or to improve existing processes, leading to manufacturing efficiency.

• 5 years’ experience in automation, microtechnology, wire bonding, and other manufacturing technologies specific to Defense and Aerospace desired.

• Lean/Six sigma green belt or higher strongly desired.
