Sanofi, Vaccines R&D, North America is seeking an experienced, highly motivated and creative Scientist to support the R&D company pipeline objectives to join the Global Immunology function. The primary objectives for this individual will be to develops innovative approach to enable rapid immune prototyping of vaccine candidates against viral pathogen. This is a unique position that requires the understanding and application of both existing and new scientific methods and knowledge in accordance with GRP standards. The candidate will be expected to apply expertise across several practical skills, including, immune serology, immune cell-based assays, as well as expertise in other disciplines such as Virology and Molecular Biology. The scientist will also be responsible to design and optimize relevant in vitro assays to support preclinical efforts. Experience with laboratory automation equipment and operational knowledge of immunoassay-based instruments is desirable. The role is a lab-based research scientist who will also be responsible for participating on various teams to design and optimize relevant in vitro immune assays and immune models to support preclinical and clinical evaluation of vaccine candidates. A passion for bench work, data analysis, and reporting excellence is a must. The position will require independent thought and a results-driven attitude while possessing strong and positive communication with different teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing critical data analyses and independently preparing and presenting meaningful presentations to senior team members and global project team members. This position will perform some aspects of project management as a project liaison and interact with both other internal teams and outside collaborators, and as such must possess excellent presentation and writing skills.

Key Accountabilities
- Function independently in the direction and execution of assigned studies in compliance with regulations as they apply to the conduct of preclinical and clinical research.
- Provide scientific expertise in study conduct, design, and interpretation.
- Design, plan and execute preclinical studies and assays to test immunogenicity, efficacy and safety of viral vaccine candidates. Generate high-quality laboratory method, protocols, amendments, reports, and develop appropriate changes to study designs.
- Function as a subject matter expert in biomarker assays and provide scientific support to laboratory staff executing biomarker studies.
- Develop and implement novel methods for detailed analysis of humoral and cellular immune responses to vaccine candidates.
- Perform a wide variety of technical procedures and operate a wide variety of lab instrumentation/computer platforms related to Immunology.
- Support the development and optimization of automation protocols for immune assays, including NT, ELISA and CMI assays.
- Develop and conduct specialized assays and transfer technology to other users.
- Review, interpret, integrate, and present data on assigned studies. Record experimental procedures and raw and analyzed data.
- Lead interactions with internal partners in other functional areas, external vendors and external scientific partners, as appropriate.
- Participate in monitoring and maintaining facility related aspects of the lab and lab equipment as needed.
- Perform statistical analyses on compiled data as needed and present to project teams.
- Conduct experiments and prepare written reports conforming to defined documentation practices in support of regulatory filings, internal company documents, and external company presentations.
- Prepare and write support manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and validation documents for methods, instruments, or work processes.
- Comply with the company safety policies and minimize risk to self, others, and the environment, consistent with the community and industry standards Contribute to implementation of lean and agile principles in the context of Scrum framework.
- Performs other duties as required.
About you
Required Education/Experience
- PhD with <3 years of experience, M.Sc. with 3 years of relevant experience or B.Sc. with 6 years of relevant experience.
- Prior experience in private R&D environments is preferred.
- Degree should be in Immunology, Virology, Biochemistry or Physical Science or applied science field.
Preferred Experience
- Expertise and extensive knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in Immunology, Virology and/or Molecular Biology.
- Technical expertise with functional and binding immunological assays: NT, ELISA, MSD, Luminex.
- Experience with viruses in a BSL II environment is required; experience with COVID is desirable.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in a broad array of automation-based techniques for laboratory experiments.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute well thought out preclinical studies and assays to provide support and advance pipeline projects.
- Knowledge and experience with Good Research Practice (GRP) regulated laboratory environments.
- Training and experience in assay development.
- Experience with data visualization and analysis tools.
- Proficient with Lean and Agile principles.
- Ability to advance multiple projects in a fast paced "biotech like" environment.
- Demonstrated potential to think independently, contribute and collaborate with cross functional project teams, and troubleshoot effectively.
- Communication skills -Able to expresses oneself clearly and concisely within team; documents issues and/or concerns concisely with colleagues; adjusts communication style as appropriate for the audience; timely and effectively communicates with senior management; technical writing skills to support authorship and approval of internal technical documents.
