A. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
We are strategically positioning resources to steward donor gifts and provide meaningful donor engagement with the University that fosters trust and continued support of Santa Clara University's (SCU) strategic initiatives. This position reports to the Director of Donor Relations.
The Assistant Director, Donor Relations works collaboratively with partners across the University to design donor engagement strategies and programs, including nationwide events with the President and senior administrators, custom stewardship plans, and management of the Founder's Society, a recognition program for donors giving $1 million or more to SCU. The diversity of workload requires leadership, flexibility, efficiency, significant attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments. This position also requires tact, diplomacy and confidentiality in dealing with members of the University community and the University's donors.
The ideal candidate will be collaborative and comfortable driving strategic engagement programs, with exceptional project management skills, in addition to managing tactical day-to-day deliverables. He/she should be articulate and engaging, creative, and have demonstrated skill in executing sophisticated donor engagement activities.
B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with University partners to:
Coordinate the design of a nationwide engagement strategy for the President, or other university administrators as assigned
Plan campaign or other donor engagement events as assigned (may include salon receptions or dinners, dedications, campaign close, or other related events)
Develops Custom Stewardship Plans and related impact-of-gift activities and collateral in collaboration with the Associate Director and Director, Donor Relations, and campus-wide stakeholders
Manages the Founders Society, SCU's most distinguished recognition program for donors who have contributed $1 million or more to help fulfill its contemporary plans to prepare "men and women for others" and to secure and strengthen Santa Clara's position among the finest institutions of higher education in the world
Contributes to a culture of high performance, excellence and quality
Representative Duties
In collaboration with University partners, coordinates programming for Meet the President, campaign, and other donor engagement events
Collaborates with stakeholders to plan and market memorable and meaningful engagement events
Prepares event briefing materials for the University president and other members of the administration and fundraisers, including talking points
Conducts post-event debriefings and analysis, with input from internal stakeholders and guests, to evaluate what elements were successful and what problems were encountered, incorporating that information into the planning and execution of subsequent events
Collaborates with stakeholders to develop, track, and execute strategic engagement strategies, activities, and collateral for the University's key donors and prospects through Custom Stewardship Plans, including:
Personalized impact videos and other digital collateral using tools such as Gratavid, Canva, Adobe Express, and other digital storytelling platforms
Engagement activities tailored to individual donors reflecting the impact of their giving at SCU
Manages the Founder's Society, including tracking newly qualified members and coordinating with prospect managers to welcome new members and celebrate this milestone
Utilizes the University's Constituent Relationship Management database (CLARA) to coordinate information-sharing and historical documentation of donor and prospect engagement
C. QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge
Understanding and appreciation of the vision and values of a Jesuit Catholic educational mission
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of fundraising and donor relations concepts, principles, procedures and techniques
Skills
Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively multi-task
Strong verbal, writing, and research skills, preferably demonstrated in an academic setting
Demonstrated success executing sophisticated events for varying constituencies, including managing planning and budgets
Excellent computer skills; proficiency in using advanced functions of word processing, Excel spreadsheets, CRM databases, and web resources to conduct research
Experience and interest with digital content formats
Abilities

Detail-oriented person with a passion for accuracy and thoroughness, with the ability to quickly understand and remember details about donors and projects

Demonstrated sound judgment in situations requiring independent decision-making and in handling confidential and sensitive material
Demonstrate a genuine desire to contribute to a collaborative and professional team environment with a positive attitude, sense of humor and flexibility
Must be willing to travel, work evening and weekend hours, and have a valid driver's license and automobile for local travel
Education
Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field is preferred
Experience
Minimum of 2-5 years of related professional experience is required, which includes 1-3 years of direct donor relations, fundraising, marketing, or specials events experience, preferably in a higher education environment or a related field such as communications, marketing or public relations
