Position Title:
Director of the Markey Center for Leadership and Ministry of the Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries

Position Purpose:
The Rev. Francis L. Markey Center for Leadership and Ministry supports the continuing education, collaboration, and outreach of the Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries at Santa Clara University through leadership and ministry formation programs focused on the needs of parishes, wider communities, and those most vulnerable. The Center would focus on offering opportunities for building leadership and ministry skills that support those already offering their services to others or those interested in doing so. The Center would seek to offer and build resources toward inclusive and just communities.

The Director will play an essential role in developing and administering programs for the Center. This position will report to the GPPM Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management of the Center

Lead the growth, development, and strategic expansion of the Center in collaboration with the GPPM director and staff .
Manage the operation of all Center programs in accordance with university and GPPM policies and procedures.
Collaborate with the GPPM director and lead constituents with policy making and program development and other aspects of the Center.
Manage financial accounts and budget for Center programs and services.
Develop and manage marketing and communications of the Center in collaboration with the GPPM, including the Center's website, social media and other materials designed to promote events and communicate information about the Center and GPPM programming.
Collect and publish content related to the Center's purpose and goals
Build strong collaborations with internal university programs and Centers as well as external connections with parishes and communities throughout California.
Work closely with GPPM to resolve challenges that impact the success of the program.

Four key areas of the Markey Center

Continuing Education

Build professional development and continuing education courses to be offered in multiple locations and online, certificate and non-certificate based (for DREs; HS teachers, parish administration; Campus ministry; health care)
Develop educational (parish-focused) programs (sacramental preparation; RCIA; Liturgical; Youth and Young Adult; Spirituality; Bible Study)
Create workshops that address current needs and skills for ministry at the parish and community level (ex. Building Intercultural Competencies for Ministry; Preaching; Restorative Justice)
Make robust use of online opportunities to make programs accessible to a wide range of people
Fr. Francis L. Markey ‘Women in Ministry" Speakers Series

Manage the marketing, planning, and running of each speaker event in collaboration with the GPPM
Develop other opportunities for this series, as well as making the resources of past lectures usable to a wider audience.
Leadership Programs

Create, run, and evaluate programs that meet the need for leadership in ministries (ex. pastoral administration, presiding, preaching; community leadership; building communities of support and service; spiritual accompaniment; restorative justice ministry, Interfaith programs; building intercultural communities; chaplaincy)
Internship Program

Build and expand the internship program to include community-based organizations; parishes; high schools; diocesan office/centers; Campus Ministry

Knowledge

Knowledge of theology and current ministry issues
Knowledge and appreciation of the Jesuit educational mission
Understanding of the parish and community issues and needs and ways to address them in planning programs and activities.
MA in pastoral ministries preferred
Experience in pastoral administration

Skills

Strong interpersonal, organizational, ability to be flexible, creative problem-solving skills
Familiarity with developing programs that meet the real needs of parishes and communities and the various ways of delivering those programs.
Ability to work collaboratively with the leadership team (GPPM director and Office Manager)
Embody and model servant leadership
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Abilities

Appreciation and understanding of Catholic theology and spirituality as it informs ministry
Appreciation for the formational component of ministry education
Good collaboration abilities within the GPPM, wider university and other diocesan centers
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Ability to direct and manage staff
Ability to develop the Markey Center for Leadership and Ministry into a robust resource for parishes, communities, and individuals and to assist in understanding and addressing the key needs of the most vulnerable.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.
Six to eight years of work in a related field required
