WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The Senior Analyst will be primarily responsible for implementation and ongoing performance monitoring of credit loss forecasting models used in stress testing and loss allowance estimation. This individual must also be comfortable explaining and defending results and analyses to senior leadership. S/he will be able to successfully contribute to large projects that include highly complex, data intensive problems that require the coordination of resources from many different areas of the Bank. This person should also demonstrate ownership over assigned tasks and be able to contribute to a team of highly sophisticated risk professionals. Through application of the Bank’s Risk Framework and the continuous identification and assessment of risk, Santander seeks to ensure that all our businesses operate inside of clearly established limits, can proactively quantify exposures, and take corrective action when needed. As a member of the Risk Management division, you’ll be part of a diverse team of talented professionals who interact with senior risk team personnel, business managers, and other Bank employees to understand business operations and dynamics, and analyze, monitor, and manage related risks.

  • Participates in the design of loss forecasting models used in stress testing and credit allowance and keeps abreast of relevant development streams in preparation for implementation.

  • Using the existing software platforms, performs robust and accurate implementation, user acceptance testing, and execution of the Company's current and future suite of loss forecasting models used in stress testing and credit allowance.

  • Recommends models for implementation into a framework that integrates inputs from various areas to allow a combined, cohesive view of portfolio performance through the stress test horizon.

  • Supports the Risk Modeling team to establish and leverage appropriate systems and processes to ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness of operations.

  • Manages the overall quality control process of model development and implementation as well as evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of existing controls and provides recommendations on opportunities for improvement.

  • Drafts and updates Model Implementation Documentation as well as documents, communicates, and incorporates risk modeling analysis into the Company's capital plan and/or other areas.

  • Participates in the design, implementation, and execution of the ongoing performance monitoring reports of loss forecasting models used in stress testing and credit allowance.

  • Analyzes and documents the risk modeling results for a wide range of internal and external audiences including senior management and corporate regulators.

  • Assists in the development and maintenance of model policies, guidelines, and development procedures, controls, tools and templates.

  • Assists in developing and providing training and support to management and employees regarding model risk strategies and programs.

  • Becomes a subject matter expert in relevant models, source data, data query and programming techniques, working closely with the team and other stakeholders, both internal and external to the bank.

  • Enhances econometric and statistical understanding via projects and self-training

  • Continually improves programming skills in SAS, Matlab, VBA, and other software

  • Researches and maintains regulatory requirements and publications relevant to model risk

  • Provides procedural guidance and support to junior analysts in the various functions of the department, and in the methods of tools of analysis.

  • Assists senior level staff and management as requested.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or equivalent quantitative discipline strongly preferred or Bachelor's Degree plus equivalent and relevant work experience

  • 1 years of Risk Modeling and/or Data Analysis experience required

  • Demonstrated practical and theoretical knowledge of credit products, their structure and behavior in various economic environments.

  • Experience in statistical analysis and risk modeling, including strong SAS skills as well as knowledge of other statistical software and/or programming languages (Matlab, VBA, etc.).

  • Prior banking or financial services experience preferred

  • Strong quantitative capabilities and analytical skills, including an investigative mindset.

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to analyze risk and provide recommendations and/or resolutions to minimize risk.

  • Ability to summarize, document, and communicate information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Ability to stay abreast of industry best practices, procedures, and techniques.
