This position provides a range of clinical and administrative services to support clinical staff to ensure timely and effective care is delivered to all patients. The Medical Assistant provides patient care in a manner that creates a warm and welcoming environment for patients and families while attending to their clinical needs. All care is provided in compliance with and according to departmental policy, which includes participating in medical and social history collection to assist in the assessment of patient need, and communicate with the health care team, as appropriate.
II. Primary Job Responsibilities

Patient Flow: Prepares exam rooms for patient care. Ensures rooms are neat, clean and stocked.
Rooms patients in preparation for nurse and physician. Breakdown, cleaning and set up of exam rooms to insure consistent patient flow. Assist with clinical inventory process.
Patient Care. Rooms patients, collects vitals, chief complaint and medical and social history. Reviews medications and documents allergies. Updates medications as instructed/approved by RN. Observes and communicates pertinent information and changes in patient's condition to the RN. Assists clinical staff in completing examinations and procedures as directed.
Office Clerical Support: Provides clerical support including scheduling, pre-authorization for exams and diagnostic testing, pre-authorization for referrals and medication pre-authorization. Conducts PAM assessments for all Medicaid patients and enters assessments into data system.
Lab Support: Follows through with patient lab order to include: phlebotomy, point of care testing and
EKG, and specimen collection. Performs designated waive testing as applicable (Strep, pregnancy, urine, protein).
Medical Records: Helps maintain accurate medical records by appropriately filing reports within
Medent (EMR) and ensuring completeness of documents prior to filing chart.
Patient Communication: Conducts patient call backs on normal test results. Communicates with patients regarding medication changes. Keeps patients informed of future appointments and testing.
Facilitates coordination for patient access to resources via the patient navigator (as applicable).
III. Additional Responsibilities
Medical Assistant II is designated to Medical Assistant I that has achieved a specialty competency above required duties that are beneficial to the practice(s). Examples include Coumadin clinic, electronic medical records extraction and chart preparation that assists with onboarding new clinical and clerical staff with the (oncology) or (practice) patient population specific documentation requirements, podiatry radiology, medication reconciliation, etc.
V. Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training & Experience High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior medical office experience preferred.
Must possess above average typing skills and ability to use information systems.
Certifications / Licensure Medical Assistant certification preferred.
