Reports to: Production Control Manager

SUMMARY

The purchasing agent procures raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, or services necessary to the operation of Sargent Metal, while following the company’s policies and procedures to ensure supplies are purchased at a fair price, with excellent quality, and in a timely manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Functions

• Adheres to purchasing policies, processes, and procedures. (including proper sign offs)
• Purchase the correct merchandise at the best price (depending on contractual obligations) and in the correct amounts as specified by our production schedule.
• Manage raw material levels.
• Assist in negotiating best vendor terms, pricing and delivery based on specific budget and schedule requirements.
• Research and evaluates suppliers based on supplier evaluation process.
• Assist in price proposals, gathering purchasing history and other data and information to determine reasonable prices.
• Issue purchase orders for all purchases.
• Uses knowledge of machines and equipment to schedule items necessary to continual production cycles.
• Monitor changes affecting supply and demand, tracking market conditions, price trends, or future markets.

Secondary Functions

• Assist with inventory control when needed.
• Assist with shipping department when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Technical degree and/or experience preferred.
• Minimum 5 years purchasing related experience.
• Experience in metal fabrication environment strongly desired.
• Supervisory skills a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
