ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan a balanced music program. Organize daily class activities so preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Evaluate each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
- Instruct students in the proper care and use of equipment.
- Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in orchestra.
- Provides for orchestra participation at extracurricular events, including concerts and community events.
- Organizes and conducts recruitment for the orchestra; informs administration and participants of final selections.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs musical experiences for the school and community with a minimum of three evening performances per school year.
- Oversees scheduling and other arrangements for the rehearsals and concerts in cooperation with the building principal.
- Prepares students and required documents for District and State OMEA Festivals.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of school-owned instruments. Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
- Orders all supplies and materials necessary for orchestra-related activities in accordance with established district procedures and budget allocations.
- Implement the District’s classroom management strategies and programs.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Valid Ohio Music teaching license
- Experience working in urban education
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs
- Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.
- Work is performed in a general school setting
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
- Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
- Periodic travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
