An established property management company is seeking a pro-active accountant looking for their next challenge in the role of property accountant. As a key member of the corporate team, the property accountant will be responsible for providing general accounting and financial support for a portfolio of residential properties. Responsible for reconciliation of bank accounts, analysis of accounts, month-end close supporting schedules, and assisting the Controller in all financial and compliance reporting. This role requires a hands-on roll up your sleeves and dive into day-to-day issues approach and deep knowledge of accounting.

Pay Scale: $75,000 - $80,000

What you’ll be doing:
Support to the preparation of multiple monthly financial statements to include, but not be limited to:
- Prepare weekly bank reconciliations for all cash accounts for all properties assigned and resolve all discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly standard journal entries including necessary accruals related to each property to include all supporting schedules.
- Reconcile key sub-ledger accounts bi-monthly.
- Assist in the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and statements of Owner’s equity for assigned properties in accordance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Effectively communicate daily with onsite property personnel to relay financial information discrepancies and issues to be resolved in a timely manner to effectuate month-end close timely.
- Posting of the payroll entries bi-monthly along with associated GL allocations
- Calculation and posting of SMC management fees to property financial statements monthly.
- Posting rents and/or other financial processes related to our industry.
- Set up and/or modify vendor profiles as needed to ensure accuracy. Partner with Regional Managers when vendors are out of insurance compliance.
- Maintain commercial ledgers and monitor payments and accounting-related lease activities for an industrial complex.
- Calculate business license fees according to property needs and other compliance requirements such as calculations for unsecured property tax on assigned properties yearly.
- Participate in accounting department projects to streamline or implement new processes and continuing education offered by the Company or Controller.
- Assist external CPA in preparation of year-end requests as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Must have experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience in Real Estate, Property Management, (preferably residential)
- Yardi 7S or Elevate experience.
- Hands-on solid accounting experience including strong working and technical knowledge of GAAP debits, credits, adjustments, unearned revenue, revenue recognition principles, accruals, balance sheet approach and sub-ledger reconciliation.
- Must have current working knowledge of software including Windows (Word, Outlook, Excel Intermediate level pivot tables, vlookup and other typical accounting spreadsheet functions)
- Extremely proficient in general accounting operations and procedures, working knowledge of accounting GAAP principles and internal controls.
- Intermediate/Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Office including pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Strong written/ verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills and presentation abilities with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals across the organization.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Detail-oriented, effective at managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines, ability to prioritize conflicting demands, organize time and resources to deliver solid and consistent results for the business and bring assignments to successful completion.
