Belmont Middle School is seeking a NH DOE Certified/Certifiable School Counselor to provide education, career, and social guidance and counseling to students. Applicants must possess strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and administration, and experience with technology and data analysis. Master's degree from a recognized college or university, with a major in social work, counseling or a related field is required.This position qualifies for a generous benefit package including District contribution toward health insurance plus fully paid Dental, Life and Long-Term Disability Insurance as well as sick and personal time. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.
Assist students to understand their own personal assets, liabilities and opportunities.2. Plans and teaches guidance curriculum to students in grades 5-8.6. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and community members to establish and maintain the best possible environment for learning and personal growth.4. Assist teachers with the gathering of information that will assist in the planning and conducting of classroom work and management.5.
Coordinate school and community resources on behalf of all students.6. Provide small group and individual counseling as appropriate for students according to the presenting personal/developmental needs at each grade level.7. Develop, conduct, and coordinate organized guidance and counseling activities.8. Assist in identifying students with special needs.9.
Provide crisis interventions, information and referral.10. Assist students in successfully making the transition from one grade level to another.11. Assist in classroom and/or behavioral management planning upon request.12. Supervise student records and protect their confidentiality.13.
Serve as a resource person for parents and school staff.14. Provide an appropriate counseling referral system for students, parents, and staff members to reach the students needs.15. Plan and provide a variety of group activities designed to be developmental and preventive in nature.16. Attend and participate in meetings and consultations.17.
Oversee 504 Plan creation, implementation and renewal/modification.18. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, agency personnel,students, parents, and the public.- Knowledge of basic counseling and education techniques and methods.- Ability to work with all students, including those who possess educational disabilities.- Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities.
