Job Description:
In the absence of the School Nurse, the Floating Nurse will be responsible for direct and indirect care given to students in compliance with school district policies, professional standards of practice, physician’s orders, and the Individual Health Plan.
The Floating Nurse will work under the direct supervision of the building Registered Nurse and/or Registered Nurse Leader.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
As a school nurse floater, you will be expected to fulfill the responsibilities of the building’s school nurse as assigned. The usual responsibilities are listed below. This is not an exhaustive list and other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
1. Assist with health needs of students including but not limited to nutrition, hydration, mobility, elimination, comfort, rest and
hygiene, and educational needs.
2. Follow medical plan of care for students with health needs.
3. Provide first aid as required by School Committee policy.
4. Observe and report needs of students to nurse leader and/or supervising registered nurse as needed.
5. Administer daily and PRN medications to students with medical orders.
6. Collect, report and document required data for student care.
7. Assess and evaluate students with medical issues and needs during school hours.
8. Regular, reliable attendance.
Qualifications
Valid/current license to practice as RN in Massachusetts
Must have a valid DESE certification
Current CPR Certificate
