POSITION SUMMARY :
The Collections Compliance Assistant, under the direction of the Assistant Housing Director, is responsible for collecting account receivables for Rental and Homeownership programs both current and vacated accounts for 500 homes.
The position is responsible for monitoring utility accounts to keep accounts current and initiate court proceedings when necessary and for all aspects of court action for non-compliance and non-payment for current and vacated accounts.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor / manager, managers in other departments, customers and outside vendors / service providers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Position sedentary primarily sitting and lifting of maximum of 10 pounds. Physical factors include constant sitting, use of near vision, typing;
frequent use of hearing, mid / far vision, depth perception, color / field of vision, bending; occasional standing, walking, carrying / lifting, pushing / pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, manual handling, use of smell and driving to court in seven-county service area.
REQUIREMENTS :
Education : High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree in Business or Legal Studies preferred.
Experience : Minimum of 2 years of experience working in accounts receivable, collections or legal field required.
Certification / License : Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.
Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge and ability to use word processing and spreadsheet and data base software preferred.
Knowledge of Housing program and policies preferred. Knowledge of Landlord / Tenant court procedures in Tribal and State court preferred.
Must have excellent public relation / customer service skills and be able to exhibit friendly and positive attitude and establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers and supervisors.
Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisory personnel, coworkers and the general public.
Must have excellent organization skills; organizing work, prioritizing tasks and managing time. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Must be able to work under pressure and handle difficult situations. Must maintain confidentiality. Native American preferred.
