What are the responsibilities and job description for the Flat Rate Tech position at Savage Kia, Inc.?
PURPOSE:
The Flat-Rate Technician is primarily responsible for performing skilled mechanical repair and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards. S/he also will oversee the work of any apprentice technician assigned to him/her.
CORE DUTIES:
- Perform mechanical work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform mechanical repair. Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts. Save and tag parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examine the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required. Advise service advisor immediately if additional mechanical work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.
- Document work performed on each vehicle on the Repair Order using the concern, cause, correction format. Tell the technician’s story as clearly as possible on your terminal as this is what the customer will see and how the billing will be determined.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to assist in snow removal on sales lot and vehicle
- Ability to lift 20 lbs
- Must have a tolerance to normal shop noise(i.e. tools, equipt, cars etc)
OTHER DUTIES:
- Aggressively and cheerfully perform or ensure performance of any and all activities necessary to improve and maintain the highest possible Dealership Customer Satisfaction level.
- Fix it right the first time! Perform road test, have customer complete the Diagnostic Questionnaire provided by dealership, check service history and factory technical information, talk directly to customer, if necessary. “Cannot verify”or “Normal Operation” results and some comebacks need to be escalated to Dispatcher and/or Service Director.
- Road-test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician, keeping in mind that customers’ vehicles should not be used for personal errands. Supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Attend factory-sponsored training classes. Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
- Ensure that customers’ cars are kept clean. Keep shop area neat and clean and be able to account for all dealership-owned tools at all times.
- Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes.
- Attend dealership-sponsored training classes
- Perform other duties as determined by management
- Must be willing to serve on the safety committee when elected
QUALIFICATIONS:
- ASE certification is preferred.
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
- Must have state inspection & emission license
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- General mechanical skills.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Manual dexterity.
- Good Judgment.
- Must wear company supplied uniform
- Must be willing to work on Saturday if it falls on the last day of the month
