The position will hold the title of Waste Services Project Manager and will be responsible for beginning-to-end management of certain projects, especially those involving complex situations such as sorting a variety of wastes, sampling wastes, or researching the pros and cons of various disposal options. The job is split about 90% office work (pricing jobs, identifying disposal options for wastes based on analysis, SDS, and other info, and preparing paperwork) and 10% field work (visiting customers, planning jobs, and sampling, sorting, packaging, and labeling chemicals).
The position involves a lot of interpersonal interaction. Every day, you will call or e-mail with one or more members of the sales force, the operations supervisor, field employees, clients, and waste disposal sites.
You will receive new requests from customers daily. Some jobs will take less than an hour to set up (including quoting, setting up waste profiles, preparing transportation paperwork, and scheduling), where others might require a site visit, sample collection, and preparation of a detailed work plan, along with on-site supervision as the work proceeds. Keeping track of the stage of each project, responding to customers and team members in a timely manner, and following up to make sure everything is completed properly are key attributes.
Job responsibilities:
· Prepare waste profiles, manifests, and related paperwork. Determine proper RCRA waste codes and DOT shipping descriptions based on field testing, labels, waste analysis, SDS's, and client information.
· Determine time and resources required for jobs, write up job requirements and safety aspects for field personnel, and request to schedule them with dispatch.
· Identify and categorize chemicals based on their chemical nature to determine proper disposal methods. Basic understanding of chemistry is essential.
· Carefully read and understand RCRA and DOT regulations to determine the status of various wastes and materials, including relevant exemptions related to shipping and disposal.
· Respond throughout the day to new customer call-ins, as well as manage existing client accounts.
· Work with various disposal sites to get pricing for waste disposal. Creatively explore a variety of disposal sites and methodologies, based on the physical and chemical attributes of the waste, to achieve the disposal solution that fits the client's needs.
· Prioritize several different on-going jobs over the course of weeks or months, and communicate on-going status with supervisor and management.
· Occasionally work on-site, and make decisions to ensure the job is completed efficiently and safely.
· Create invoicing spreadsheets for submittal to billing department.
Skills/**Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess an associate degree or higher in a scientific field. Experience in the hazardous waste industry, especially with regards to preparing waste profiles and manifests, is very beneficial. Candidates should possess exceptional organizational and communication skills and be able to work in fast paced work environment where priorities and workloads are constantly in flux. The position requires person with who is extremely detail-oriented, able to keep multiple on-going projects organized, and adept at providing regular updates to customers and co-workers.
