Major Purpose:
Responsible for leading a specialized team in planning, organizing and managing one of our rail operations, ensuring railcar indexing, switching and spotting, unloading and loading is performed in a safe, environmentally friendly, and efficient manner.
Here is what you will be doing
Daily communication with customers and railroads on scheduling and other issues to ensure a smooth and safe operation.
Participate in budget preparation, management of financial information
Possesses experience and knowledge of the following:
Locomotives or Railcar movers
SIT Yard Switching Operations
Steaming, unloading and loading of railcars
Minor railcar Maintenance
Minor track Maintenance
Provide "Worry-Free" service to the customer on every shift, every day.
Ability to build strong relationships with customer contacts
Ability to understand the customer contract and rate structure
Learn, implement, teach, and execute the S7 Operating System
Ability to promote a safety culture where each Team Member has the value and attitude that unsafe behaviors and conditions will not happen on their shift
Committed to teaching and promoting personal responsibility for identifying and executing safe behavior and demonstrating environmental responsibility
Ability to develop and execute a business plan (including budgeting, projecting, variance analysis, and cost management)
Ability to be proactive in problem solving, making decisions, organizing and directing people, and utilizing coaching techniques for improving behaviors
Provide innovative solutions to operational challenges
Build and maintain strong relationships with team members, customers and vendors
Set an example of professionalism and create an environment where people are committed to professionalism and cleanliness
Hands on leadership with operational and technical skills to ensure that "best practices" are being utilized

Must have leadership skills to ensure team members follow procedures at all times even when no one is watching
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. This is a hands-on position at times
Ability to work with and perform basic computer operations (spreadsheet, word processor, and email operations), and general office organization
Good written and oral skills with an ability to communicate with co-workers, customers, and other company personnel
Knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements
Desire and willingness to learn
Requirements of a successful Transload Operations Manager
Hands-on experience in railcar loading and unloading preferred
Maintenance experience a plus
Must have leadership skills to ensure team members follow procedures at all times even when no one is watching
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Written and oral skills with an ability to communicate with co-workers, customers, and other company personnel
For safety reasons, must be able to read, write and understand, and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English
Dynamic personality to lead team members and put safety first
Ability to travel
College degree preferred
Valid Drivers License
2 years management experience preferred
2 years of rail car loading experience preferred
Here are some of the physical requirements for this role
This position is required to work outdoors daily in various elements of weather
Must be able to work outdoors in various climates for up to 12 hours
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis
Must be able to climb steps and ladders
Must have the ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
Should have the ability to use basic hand tools
