Consulting Arborist
Purpose:
As a member of a high performing team, the Consulting Arborist will serve as the subject matter expert to current and future SavATree clients in the science and practice of Arboriculture. They will use their authoritative knowledge and perspective on tree and other plant life to develop and execute comprehensive plans to include appraisals, inventories, evaluations and assessments in an ethical and objective manner. Through their work, they will grow the SavATree client base throughout the assigned region, contributing to the financial health and growth of the SavATree brand.
Essential Functions of the Role:
- Production
- Lead data collection, analysis and creation of reports to provide recommendations to clients
- Involved in the production of all work sold to clients (i.e. tree inventory, appraisals, evaluations and assessments)
- All sales service visits result in complete and accurate diagnosis with appropriate recommendations made in a timely manner to the prospect/client.
- Create proposals that address our cost needs but remain competitive
- Provide “on-demand” response in order to foster and advance client relationships.
- All client contact is conducted in a friendly, genuine and upbeat manner.
- Provide responses within 24 hours or as agreed.
- Customer Service
- Handle all complaints with clients according to standard work
- Correspond with clients and client employees, maintaining good client relationships
- Act as a consultant for clients directly and indirectly in allied and sometimes non-allied fields
- Professional Development
- Set up personal production goals and quotas with Consulting Group Director and create a plan to execute
- Attend sales meetings and training sessions set up by company management
- Keep own personal sales records necessary in maintaining an organized accounting of dealing with prospects, clients and others
- Sales
- Sell to prospects and clients using all applicable sales tools, e.g.:
- cold calls
- advertising
- client referrals
- direct mail campaigns
- leads from Arborists
- seasonal visits
- and other marketing tools as made available
- Estimate job costs and quote and present same to prospects and clients
- Negotiate contracts and prepare bids for jobs
- Design and send out sales letters to prospects and clients
- Sell to prospects and clients using all applicable sales tools, e.g.:
- Business Development
- Work to develop lists of prospects for various target markets, call on the lists to generate leads
- Maintain good trade references with those in allied businesses with whom there is reciprocal business
- Give presentations at meetings and conferences of target market groups to promote good will and sales
- Voluntarily participate actively in other such professional, trade or civic organizations that benefit the industry, the company, the individual and the public
- Interact with Arborists throughout the company to identify and follow up on leads
Decision Making Authority:
- Autonomy level will be developed over time
- Ability to set their own schedule and pace of work
Working Relationships:
- Internal: Consulting Arborist Team; Sales Arborists and Commercial Arborists throughout the company; Branch Management
- External: Current Clients and Prospects; Strategic Alliances with Industry Professionals such as Engineers, Landscape Architects and Attorneys; Industry and Trade Organizations; Target Market Groups
Physical Environment:
- Work outdoors up to 50% of time
- Adverse weather conditions
- Travel by vehicle to client properties
Qualifications for this Role:
- ISA Certified Arborist
- Degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Plant Science, Plant Pathology, Floriculture, Biological Sciences or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of data collection and analysis in the field
- Proficient with tech including Office 365 tools, GPS, GIS.
- Hands-on experience with an air spade and knowledge of tree, shrub, and/or lawn species.
- Ability to develop and execute data collection plans, and to perform analysis and formulate recommendations based on them.
- Someone who can grow their book of business to achieve higher sales.
- Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills to understand and meet client needs.
- A valid driver's license to reach clients in your region.
- Frequent travel up to 75% (50% local, 25% long distance)
