Job Description:
Part-time Educator (up to 15 hours per week) to lead public tours for visitors to one of the most important National Parks and Monuments in the United States. Qualified applicants will lead visitors on a 90-minute excursion back in time on tours of the unrestored hospital buildings on Ellis Island's south side. This side of the island is not open to the general-public, and may only be accessed through one of Save Ellis Island's tours or education programs. Tours are sold out weeks in advance.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct 90-minute tours on each of your scheduled work days
- Follow a script on the history of the hospital while adding your own personal touch
- Provide a positive and engaging museum experience for all visitors
- Comply with health and safety protocols
- Perform simple administrative tasks relating to the position
- Position hours 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Work Schedule (Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday) must be able to commit to this schedule weekly
- Must be willing to work a set scheduled work week consisting of 3 days per week, 5 hours per day that will include weekends and holidays.
Qualifications:
Excellent oral communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills in engaging diverse individuals and audiences
Demonstrated passion for story telling
Background in history, education, theater or related field is preferred
Experience in teaching or working in a museum, informal educational or classroom setting is highly preferred
Ability to perform work in buildings exposed to the elements
This position is non-exempt and reports to the Visitor Services Manager.
Free ferry transport from New York City or bridge access from Jersey City, NJ will be provided.
