Summary/Objective
This position leads and coordinates providing day to day EHS training and support to leadership and operating teams at the manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for overall employee safety for our FDL West plant, including safety programs, systems, policies, training, machine guarding, risk management, Federal and State OSHA compliance and audits. The position must be able to analyze, design, and implement continuous improvement solutions based on knowledge of the industry’s best practices and established work processes and application of formal problem-solving tools (root cause analysis, DMAIC/PDCA, 5 why/5M analysis, etc.)
Essential Functions

- Ensures day-to-day administration of plant safety projects, policies, and procedures, Federal and State OSHA compliance, and compliance with all other applicable regulations including, communications and reporting with each Agency;
- Heavily involved with the facilities emergency response program, and facilitates the ammonia Safety program and training;
- Assists in emergency situations with first aid/first responder and, AED use skills as required;
- Proposes and implements action plans to ensure a safe and healthful work environment;
- Conducts or ensures proper safety training and meetings for existing employees, visitors, contractors and temporary labor;
- Drives process improvements in the area of Health and Safety;
- Performs Safety Assessments, audits and training;
- Leads and is a key resource for the Safety Committee;
- Leads and is a key resource for Behavioral Safety Program and Risk Management;
- Performs accident, incident, and near miss investigations and root cause analysis;
- Maintains OSHA 300, 300A, and 301;
- Analyzes risks and proposes corrective actions;
- Responsible for Safety Data tracking and reporting;
- Responsible for oversight of the Security Department (including 3rd party contractors, camera, and door security systems);
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in an office and plant environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use fingers to type. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing throughout the day. The employee must occasionally lift or move items up to or over 40 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required as job duties demand.
Travel
This position requires <10% travel. Frequently, travel is outside the local area and overnight.
Required Education and Experience
- Associate degree in Business, Operations Management, EHS, or related discipline or equivalent combination of education, experience and training
- Thorough knowledge of Continuous Improvement principles and/or formal Lean and/or Six Sigma training/certifications
- A minimum of 3 years of increasing safety and environmental experience in a complex, fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Experience working with a diverse group of people
- Proficiency with software applications including Outlook, SAP, Labware and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Demonstrates a passion for safety and continuous improvement, self-motivation, and a commitment to results
- Excellent facilitation skills, project management skills and drive for results;
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Experience working with employees at all levels
- Ability to manage small and large projects
- Ability to analyze data and information, and to make effective and timely decisions
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and within a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop and direct pro-active safety programs
- Capable of training in all areas of Safety (assessments, audits, and new hire training)
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and team building skills
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, EHS, or related discipline
- 4 years of project management experience
- Forklift Training certification, First Aid/CPR/AED certification, First Responder Training, Hazardous Safety Certifications
Pay Range: $100k - $145k
