Position Purpose

The production manager ensures that the Custom Packaging Center processes run reliably, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to standard. This position has primary responsibility for production in our Fairfield, CA facility, providing strong leadership and communication to our production team of supervisors and our production team members to deliver world-class results in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This position will work closely with all warehouse personnel in achieving the objective of zero injuries and 100% compliance.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Work on-site on the production floor daily.
  • Collaborate with the planning department to complete production activities toward the accomplishment of company goals and objectives, ensuring we meet customer demand.
  • Manage departmental budget and assist in the development of specific short- and long-range plans and goals for the production department.
  • Develop methods of improvement in the current production practices to promote efficiency and lower costs.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with team members through open communication, visibility, and involvement to promote a positive working environment that maximizes safety, employee engagement, productivity, and throughput.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to supervisors and the production team, fostering an environment of continuous learning and development.
  • Hires, trains, coaches, and reviews the performance of team members while partnering with HR for recruitment, training, corrective actions, performance improvement plans, and terminations.
  • Analyzes and submits reports for the production numbers, downtime, attendance, and overtime to the senior manager.
  • Work collaboratively with customer service, supply chain, purchasing, and other departments to reach goals and objectives.
  • Manage and report budget requirements and costs. Propose recommendations for cost savings.
  • Reviews and recommends changes to the master production schedule to enhance productivity best.
  • Maintains compliance with government regulations, company policy, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices. Manage a safe working environment, accurately document safety-related training, and effectively communicate safety incidents.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Provides strategic input and oversight to departmental projects.
  • Makes data-driven decisions and develops sustainable solutions.
  • Makes strategic decisions that prioritize the customer's needs over departmental/individual goals.

Additional responsibilities*

  • Lead project implementation or special projects as assigned.
  • Participate in cross-functional Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma projects.
  • Actively participate in innovation initiatives to contribute new ideas for improving production processes.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • 5 Years – Experience in a field or similar light manufacturing environment; 10 years preferred.
  • 5 Years – Experience in position; 10 years preferred
  • 5 Years – Experience managing people/projects and leading a team of 45 or more.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management or 7 years in field and position.
  • Experience with Profit & Loss (P&L) management preferred.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of production tools and equipment. Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new programs. Proven experience in implementing processes and procedures to improve training, productivity, processes, and safety. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Bilingual English/Spanish preferred).

Ability to influence cross-functional change and build relationships at all organizational levels. High level of integrity and transparency in generating reports.
