Field Engineer

Field Engineer Overview of Position: The Field Engineer is expected to provide mid-level system installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance on Speedcast’s products and services overseas, onshore, and offshore as appropriate. The employee may also perform highly complex technical assignments as directed by leadership. What you will do: Provide technical support and resource to ensure delivery of service Act as a liaison with clients, and groups within Speedcast to ensure the timely delivery of service Perform installation, commissioning and maintenance of fixed and stabilized satellite systems, including: Provide technical support and supervision of junior Field Technicians, including on the job training where appropriate Assist with the problem solving of technical issues within the company Travel to customers sites overseas, onshore and offshore, often at short notice Comply with all safety requirements implemented by employer, customers, facility owners or vendors involved in the employee’s daily tasks Complete all required paperwork accurately, legibly and obtain proper approvals from job site location management Communicate job progress to customers, Management and Technical Services Work on-call shifts of twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) days a week, except for periods designated by the service supervisor Travel domestic and international Lift up to 75 lbs.; climbs structures as required on land and offshore, installing communication and antenna systems Comply with eligibility to obtain and maintain valid TWIC card Configure, test and find faultfinding satellite modems Configure, test and find faultfinding C & Ku-band RF units Assemble fixed antenna systems Assemble Seatel stabilized antennas and radomes What we need from you: High School Diploma or GED required 5-7 years’ experience in Radio Frequency (RF) communications systems Minimum 4 years’ experience working with VSAT systems and related equipment At least 2 years of experience in proper usage of a variety of hand tools Valid Driver’s license Professional attitude, appearance and performance Computer literate Good communication skills (written and verbal) Ability to work to meet both customer and company demands within a short time frame Even better if you have: Associates Degree in Electronic/Engineering/Telecom or data networks preferred Experience in computer networking systems and components Ability to install, commission, and fault find VSAT systems and equipment preferred Previous experience of installing, commissioning and fault finding stabilized satellite systems and equipment preferred Familiar with the use of a range of suitable test equipment including Spectrum Analyzers, BERT testers, Wattmeters etc. Familiar with install and fault find on typical maritime installations. (LOS, VHF, UHF) Previous experience of PBX’s, routers, TCP/IP, PA and radio systems preferred IS systems installation Experienced with Cable Management Proficient use of test equipment and tools (for project cables and equipment) Familiar with Labeling-marking-tagging Knowledge and proficient with EIA/TIA cable installation standards and guidelines Familiar with Safety/Security – as applicable for all phases of project and GOM requirements (Water Survival, HUET, TWIC, etc.) – specifics will be verified with customer Systems knowledge of any IS systems referenced in attached Big Foot Telecom spec About Speedcast Speedcast is a leading communications and IT services provider, delivering critical communications services to the Maritime, Energy, Mining, Media, Telecom, Cruise, NGO, Government, and Enterprise sectors.
