What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop Technician position at SCAD?
As a ceramics shop technician, you will support faculty and students in the ceramics department by creating and maintaining a clean, safe, orderly studio environment stocked with the necessary equipment and supplies. You will make clay and glazes, research new materials and techniques, monitor open studio hours, order inventory, and maintain the throwing wheels and kilns. Among other duties, you will conduct regular kiln firings, photograph outstanding student work for the department, and work with various units (e.g., ceramics club, faculty) to host events, exhibitions, SCADextra workshops, and SCAD Day demonstrations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.F.A. in a relevant discipline
- Professional experience as a ceramic artist, firing ceramic work, and with raku
Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
