What are the responsibilities and job description for the Voice Instructor position at SCAD?

As the primary voice instructor, you will engage in up to 30 individual voice lessons per week beginning the second week of each term. You will provide weekly studio classes, facilitate high-profile vocal performances (including national competitions) on a regular basis, and instruct students on foundational classical techniques and traditional repertoire. Among other duties, you will also teach techniques for musical theater and pop/rock performance (e.g., ear training, musicianship, song interpretation), and will provide plans for vocal success for graduating students to ensure a successful launch to their future career paths.

 

The successful candidate is enthusiastic about current practices in voice pedagogy, techniques, and style, and has a broad knowledge of musical theater (e.g., repertory, performance, vocal styles that include pop and rock). A thorough understanding of vocal anatomy and a demonstrated ability to address vocal health and technique concerns is paramount.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in vocal pedagogy, vocal performance, or a closely related discipline
  • Extensive professional experience and national reputation as a vocal instructor and as a musical theater performer or classical/opera singer
  • Proficient in piano

 

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
