ABOUT US: The Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning parks and recreation agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events, as well as facilities, parks and open spaces! Spring Valley features 135 acres of prairie, woodlands and wetlands, three miles of walking trails, a nature center, an 1880s living history farm and the Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground.
LOCATION: Spring Valley Nature Center & Heritage Farm, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road
JOB SUMMARY: The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, placement, and scheduling of volunteers within the district’s Nature/Conservation and Recreation Departments. Spring Valley’s grounds management, interpretive programming and special events serve as the focus of operations with some additional time dedicated to the district’s recreational programming and events. The role also includes soliciting involvement and partnerships with community groups and local businesses.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess superior inter-personal skills (personable, patient and flexible), excellent written and oral communication skills, and excellent organizational skills. B.A. in Human Resources or related field preferred or at least one year of experience managing volunteer programs. Proficiency with MS-Word and Excel; familiarity with Volgistics volunteer management software a plus.
SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a year-round, part-time position paying $18.00/hour. Normal schedule is 28 hours per week (including occasional weekends and evenings).
