Summer Intern – Product Assurance Engineer, Hague Road Technical Center – Indianapolis, Indiana Develop your engineering talents with an industry leading company working on site in a 15,000 square foot world class electromechanical test lab. As a Product Assurance Engineering intern, you will have the unique opportunity to build valuable experience in both product compliance and product testing. Product compliance engineers at Allegion support new and ongoing certifications providing support for internal testing activities and acting as a liaison for third-party testing needs with Nationally Recognized Test Labs (NRTL’s) like Underwriters Laboratories and Intertek. Product test engineers support New Product Development (NPD) and Product Lifecycle Engineering (PLE) teams throughout the design process ensuring designs meet the rigors of the industrial, commercial, and residential environments where our products are used. What You Will Do: Work directly with an experienced Compliance Engineer to plan, schedule, communicate, and execute all compliance, test, and certification activities in support of an NPD or PLE project Participate in regularly occurring cross functional team meetings providing exposure to all facets of the Allegion product development process including engineering, sales, tech support, finance, marketing, etc. Work directly with an experienced Compliance or Test Engineer to support Allegion product testing including sample procurement, sample installation, daily checks, failure analysis, test data review, status reports outs, and test report generation Gain general familiarity with a multitude of critical lab equipment including PLC’s, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, test fixtures, lab gages, Instron, 3D scanners, environmental chambers, and custom data acquisition systems Oversee a mechanical/electrical process improvement project to overhaul one of Allegion’s current test cells to include the following Review current certification/testing requirements for the product being tested Review the current test cell capabilities and limitations and perform benchmarking of our sister test facility in Indianapolis, IN Design new fixturing/equipment, electrical components, and potential modifications to the current test cells working directly with outside vendors, engineering teams, etc. Present and gain both design and financial approval to proceed with implementation Oversee procurement, installation, validation, and approval for use of the new fixturing/equipment with outside agencies Develop appropriate documentation and test methods for the new equipment and provide training to the operators Additional projects may be customized to your skill set and interest as the internship progresses What You Need to Succeed: Pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology CAD experience with PTC CREO is a plus Effective listening, time management and creative problem-solving techniques A strong mechanical aptitude and a general familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and shop tools Basic electrical knowledge including PLC installation and wiring, ladder logic, oscilloscope use, power supplies, etc. is helpful but not required Ability to work in both a team and individual setting. Resiliency and ability to adapt quickly.
