The Hammond Arts & Performance Academy (hammondapa.com), a pre-professional integrated academic program for high school students within Northwest Indiana (30 Miles outside of Chicago) is seeking a High School Dance Teacher for the 2022-23 academic year. This is an added position as our Dance program continues to grow at Hammond Central High School and the feeder middle school Eggers MS. HAPA is a school-within-a-school model in the high school levels. Teachers within this program instruct both elective students and those governed on the Civic Arts Pathway in building the academy model. The course-load is wholly Dance based with additional work in yoga-Pilates as applicable. It is not a hybrid position and wholly movement based. There may be room for musical theatre courses as well based on ability and interest.
The dance teacher is responsible for the building of the high school and feeder middle school dance programming at HAPA within Hammond Central and Eggers MS and has an opportunity to build and extend the program based upon their passions and the progressive needs of our students. The ideal candidate will be able to serve elective students to enlighten them as to the essential need of dance, while also them to further their skills. There is enormous potential for expression, dance mediums, production, and movement proficiencies. We have incredible facilities and an arts supportive district. The candidate will also have opportunity to serve creatively in directing/musically directing/coordinating district wide programs and productions beyond their content area. These are additional stipend opportunities beyond the HAPA programming as well. Further, HAPA values ideas and avenues that challenge convention…we welcome YOU and your ideas and inspiration.
HAPA offers comprehensive programming in Visual Arts, Acting, Vocal, Instrumental, Rock Band, Piano, Guitar, Electronic Music, Dance, and Technical Theatre. The candidate would be a collaborator with an exceptional staff of arts educators with vast and varied skills who are ever dedicated to serving students through the power of art. Our populous is committed to diversity and inclusion.
