What are the responsibilities and job description for the Alternative to Suspension Coordinator position at School District of Ashland?
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field with an emphasis on reasoning, mental health, and/or restorative practices.
- Ability to forge positive relationships with students and their parents/guardians of students.
- Ability to work collegially with department staff, student services, administration, the faculty, maintenance staff, and community as needed.
- Ability to facilitate student/parent meetings as needed.
- Work with up to ten (10) students daily on social interactions, academics, restorative conversations, and practices.
- Ability to follow and/or lead the District’s Mission and Vision.
- Support and encourage District’s values including equity and inclusion.
- Follow all district policies.
- Liaison with classroom teachers to support students (general and special education) to support students and determine best academic, social, and restorative practices for individual students.
- Develop re-entry plans, including restorative practices, to help students function more independently in the regular school setting.
- Work with, provide direction for, and support Alternative to Suspension Assistant.
- Occasionally transport students from one school building to another school building or community site.
- Liaison with community/partner organizations (such as but not limited to) SPARK, Boys and Girls Club, Ashland County, local law enforcement, Bad River Tribal Education Department. To include legal knowledge of when releases are required and how to obtain releases.
- Work with the Student Learning Director to select and implement curriculum and track program data.
- Liaison with referring administrators to develop a plan for each student in the program.
- Communicate with parents to give updates on student progress.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to adjust the program as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
