Responsibilities:
- Administering History curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives
- Utilizing lesson plans and instructional materials to develop unit organization around historical problems
- Teaching knowledge of social studies, incorporating history, geography, economics, political science, systems of government, education, responsible citizenship, and humanities
- Developing students' understanding of various racial, ethnic, religious and political groups and mores, as well as socio-economic status
- Fostering an understanding of the continuity and patterns of human behavior through the ages
- Demonstrating the manner in which the past provides a comparative basis from which to evaluate the nature of current issues and predict courses of action for the future
- Developing students' research skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to make critical value judgments
- Promoting students' critical analysis of the effect media has on the flow of information and shaping of public discourse
- Conducting ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifying instructional methods to fit individual student's needs
- Organizing and maintaining a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance
- Encouraging parental involvement in students' education and ensuring effective communication with students and parents
- Ensuring that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies
- Coordinating with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participating in faculty meetings and committees
- Selecting and requisitioning appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintaining inventory records
- New Jersey State Certification as a Social Studies Teacher or History Teacher
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
