What are the responsibilities and job description for the Color Guard Instructor (Adjunct) position at School of Creative Arts?
JOB SUMMARY: The Color Guard Instructor designs color guard programs that effectively complement and enhance the visual and musical program, evaluates members’ abilities and designs equipment carriage accordingly, works closely with the Marching Band Director and the other staff members to develop visual program, attends all rehearsals and performances, instructs members in fundamental and advanced flag techniques, and teaches members program material.
This is a part-time position available on a semester-by-semester basis.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
The Color Guard Instructor coordinates the color guard rehearsal schedule with the full Marching Band; creates rehearsal plans in cooperation with Marching Band Director; ensures the highest possible level of performance from the color guard members thorough a proper warm-up process, effective preparation, and attention to individual members; recruits potential color guard members while retaining current members; ensures that the color guard is properly equipped for rehearsals and performances; maintains a cooperative working relationship with the Marching Band Director, Band staff, Band members, and University Administration; manages all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances including maintenance, repair, and acquisition recommendations, participates in spring semester program planning as needed, and recommends new property purchases within the budget allocations.
The Color Guard Instructor must be available for band camp, and attend all rehearsals and performances. This may require availability for post-season tournaments. The Color Guard instructor is also expected to be available for auditions of new members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma required
Experience: Extensive successful experience as a color guard designer and instructor for marching band or drum corps required.
