We are seeking a Music Director that embodies rock and roll in a positive way. This role creates a safe and inspiring environment for students to achieve their musical and creative potential and ensures that each School of Rock student has an exceptional musical journey.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all music and education-related elements within the School to maximize the quality of music instruction including private lessons, rehearsals, and shows. Must be able to work all shifts when the school is open to assist with supporting staff in lessons, classes and rehearsals.
  • Seasonal show planning support role that includes curriculum planning, brainstorming meetings, overseeing spreadsheet completion and execution as the season progresses.
  • Daily equipment manager duties to ensure all gear is in proper working order and school is tidy and ready for business.
  • Responsible for overseeing instructors and rehearsal directors and their daily responsibilities.
  • Main point person for all-school live shows (x3 per year)- responsible for UHaul, loading gear, supervising load-in, set-up, soundcheck, stage manager duties, load-out, etc.
  • House Band Director role that includes facilitating weekly rehearsals with House Band group, main point person for live shows throughout the spring / summer (same responsibilities as all-school live shows) and assisting with auditions and the casting process.
  • Interact with parents and students regularly by being visible and accessible in the school.
  • Communicate regularly with parents on student progress and address any questions and issues about the music program.
  • When needed, market the school by facilitating new student and/or parent prospects tours; engaging and selling them on the school.
  • Adhere to the SOR Code of Conduct, safety policies, including the Monitoring and Supervision policy.

Skill Requirements:

  • 5 years’ experience teaching and/or performing music professionally
  • Ideal candidate is/has been a working musician who also has formal music school training
  • Must be able to play all instruments (guitar, bass, keys, drums and vocals) at a moderate proficiency for the ability to fill-in for lessons and rehearsals when necessary. Should be advanced/professional in 2-3 instruments
  • Must be comfortable leading a team of employees, delegating tasks and responsibilities, giving feedback and coaching
  • Ability to set up gear for all live shows. And run sound at a basic level for select shows.
  • Must be able to work all days/times that the school is open (38 hours per week on average)
  • Can flex time, when needed- as approved by owners
  • Monday - Thursday from 1 - 8:30 p.m.
  • Friday from 4:15 - 6:15 p.m.
  • Saturday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Strong organizational skills (detail oriented, punctual, prepared)
  • Resourceful and good problem-solver
  • Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design
  • Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers and other people
  • Works well under pressure and operates with a sense of urgency
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor
  • Demonstrates leadership, leads by example, shows initiative, has good judgment
  • Vast knowledge of the classic rock catalog
