Painter 1

Production painter I is an entry level position for an individual with virtually no experience working in a paint department and/or performing painting duties. This position will require verbal or written guidance for all/most daily job tasks until experience level builds. This position will involve painting only component parts until skills are developed. Within 6-9 months of experience, the employee should be able to perform most job tasks with little supervision.

  • Applying required paints and/or primers on component parts;
  • Mixing paints and performing viscosity checks;
  • Maintenance/cleaning of booth and paint equipment;
  • Minor equipment repairs of paint gun, pumps, and equipment;
  • Wipe down or blow down parts when required;
  • Visually inspect parts for defect, rework, or other potential flaws before and after painting;
  • Using a wet film gage to determine proper coverage;
  • Performing water break test;
  • Moving parts into and out of paint booth;
  • Logging into computer and recording time accurately for each job;
  • Verifying counts on all parts entering and leaving the department;
  • Creating move tickets;
  • Operate lifting and moving devices in order to move equipment or materials so that areas to be painted are accessible.
  • Adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes and maintain a safe working environment;
  • Must be medically able to pass health requirements to be permitted to work in paint area;
  • Typically reports to Production Painter IV and/or Paint Supervisor.

Painter II
Production Painter II is a position for an individual who has already demonstrated Production Painter I skills. This individual is able to perform basic painting duties independently, but will require additional mentoring and supervision to learn additional job duties. Within 6-9 months of experience, the employee should be able to perform most job tasks with little supervision.
  • All the requirements of Production Painter I;
  • Has a minimum of one year documented work history performing Production I duties;
  • Advanced equipment troubleshooting of paint gun, pumps, and equipment (i.e. gun rebuilds, etc.);
  • Applying final coats to more complex products assemblies (i.e. trailer final coats, etc.);
  • Calibrating and using inspection gages to self-audit own work;
  • Taking blast profile measurements in order to make adjustments to coatings thickness;
  • Identifying and correct pint defects (i.e. fish eyes, sags, dry spray, etc.);
  • Repairing and blending paint repair areas;
  • Perform minor touchup and repair work using paint guns, orbital sanders, and related tools;
  • Identifies process improvements;
  • Adjust controls to speed the drying of parts between coats;
  • Paint by hand areas that cannot be reached with a spray gun, or those that need retouching, using brushes.
  • Typically reports to Production Painter IV and/or Paint Supervisor.

Painter III
  • All the requirements of Production Painter II;
  • Has a minimum of one year documented work history performing Production II duties;
  • Lay out logos, symbols, or designs on painted surfaces, according to blueprint specifications, using measuring instruments, stencils, or patterns;
  • Final coating complex assemblies to a high lever finish (i.e. free of dry spray, etc.);
  • Typically reports to Production Painter IV and/or Paint Supervisor.

Painter IV

  • All the requirements of Production Painter III;
  • Has a minimum of one year documented work history performing Production III duties;
  • Paint high quality finishes to parts and assemblies;
  • Mix paints to match color specifications or vehicles' original colors;
  • Typically reports to the Paint Supervisor.
