Provide meteorological support to space, aircraft, and field research projects:Local and Global Forecasting, aviation and surface based: Winds, temperatures, relative humidity, aerosols, turbulence, visibility, icing, cloud coverage and heights, significant weather, etc
Field deployment and operation of weather instrumentation in remote locations Coordinating and/or performing weather balloon launches Takeoff and landing; continuous mission support
Utilize meteorological knowledge to assist in planning for, support during, and post-flight weather data analysis for project managers and engineers
Install, deploy, and operate various types of weather instrumentation to provide data for requesting flight or field research projects
Maintain instrument calibrations, installations and removals, data comparisons, quality assurance, and compliance
Collect, archive, and disseminate raw and/or analyzed weather data posttest.
Issue Center Weather Lightning and Heat Stress Advisories and Warnings
Provide turbulence, icing, wind, visibility, heat stress and adverse weather condition warnings to flight crew, program managers, and Safety to ensure safety of AFRC personnel and resources
Brief flight crews verbally and in writing of pertinent weather information: weather observations, Airmets/ SIGMETS, NOTAMs, forecast, potential adverse weather conditions and provide in-flight recommendations “on the fly”
Attend and support Daily briefings for maintenance and aircrew
Actively participate in AFRC and public outreach events (i.e., AFRC Safety Day–lightning, dust storms, strong winds, heat stress, etc.)
Participate in weather-related collaborations and training
Range Commanders Council (RCC); American Meteorology Society (AMS), etc.
Perform work in accordance with NASA ISO AS9100 procedures and applicable regulatory requirements
Follow the safe practices and rules contained in the Safety and Health plan and other such rules and practices communicated on the job
Report status to Senior Technical Lead and/or Task Focal Point in standardized format on or before due date

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience with meteorological forecasting, deployment/operation and maintenance of MET infrastructure (sensors, equipment, calibrations, budgeting, etc.), maintaining software and computer IT-compatibility, performing various weather instrumentation data analyses and archiving, supporting requests for climatology reports, and performing air data calibration analyses
Knowledge and experience in severe/hazardous weather required to: forecast, identify conditions that may lead to severe/hazardous weather outbreaks, and work with teams to establish safe operating procedures. Additional skills and knowledge of space weather and its effects on aircraft and life are ideal
Preferred candidate has field or lab research experience, understanding/experience forecasting icing, turbulence, and other aviation related conditions; as well as computer programming experience (MATLAB/Python preferred)
EDUCATION: 2 Years of Experience OR a Bachelors Degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Sciences (required) 0 Years of Experience OR an Advanced Degree (Masters or PhD) Meteorology or Atmospheric Sciences (required)
Must be a U.S. citizen
Must be able to secure and maintain a security clearance
Must pass drug testing
Must be able to read and write effectively in English

With the exception of STD/LTD/FMLA/approved time off, attendance is considered essential
Must be able to work 9/80 schedule (alternating Fridays off) and within core hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Flexibility may be required based on workload
Physical requirements – must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Travel requirements – some travel is anticipated both locally and long distance by car or plane
Telework: The ability to work onsite daily is required and part-time telework is approved based on project needs
Physical requirements – must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, must be able to lift 50lbs. 3-1/2 feet off the ground
Must obtain and maintain a Level-3 flight line driver’s license (cannot be color blind; must be able to drive a truck)
