Description
The Communications and Development Coordinator works with the Communications and Development Departments to implement strategy for all Science Museum Oklahoma communications and fundraising efforts, and to consistently articulate SMO’s mission, promote its programs, and strengthen its brand identity across key stakeholder audiences.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities
Works with Communications and Development Directors to support departmental brand and fundraising strategies.
Writes and develops dynamic print and web content for public consumption, including the museum’s website, social media, newsletters, and fundraising materials such as grant and donor reports, and fundraising mailings.
Monitors the museum’s social media and fundraising channels, online presence and reputation, including via museum-owned social media and profiles on third-party websites.
Maintains departmental editorial and fundraising calendars.
Assists with responding to media, guest, and fundraising inquiries in a timely manner. Serves as secondary media and fundraising contact as needed.
Supports the research and writing of stories, general news releases and copy, with the goal of promoting awareness and/or action on behalf of the museum.
Maintains departmental databases and files, including donor database. Assists with gift entry and gift acknowledgment processes.
Researches potential funders and fundraising outreach activities.
Assists with Allied Arts grants, requests, and speaking engagement scheduling.
Provides social media coverage and fundraising event assistance at museum events during and outside of regular business hours.
Works cross-departmentally to develop and execute projects and assignments that are completed on schedule with the highest quality and efficiency.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field.
At least three years of communications experience, ideally in areas including social media, media relations, and copywriting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Advanced writing and editing skills, including persuasive writing skills
Detail-oriented
Social media management and email marketing
AP Style
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SurveyMonkey
Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with a variety of constituent groups
