RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Proactively address workload challenges to create a workplace that increases staff retention and strengthens communication within and outside the department.
- Oversee financial reporting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, contract billings, and the annual regional agency audit.
- Direct the preparation of the annual financial reports and audits for the King County region Family Center.
- Determine the proper accounting presentation of all necessary schedules, internal audits, Federal OMB super circular 2 CFR 200, and tax returns while meeting state and local level standards.
- Serve as a key member of the ERP implementation team to continue the conversion to a new ERP system, Infor.
- Establish and monitor monthly closing processes and deadlines. Ensure financial statements are adjusted to properly reflect actual profit/loss monthly within the established deadlines.
- Manage all state, local, and contract provisions and restricted funds through the design and implementation of accounting procedures that are in compliance with Federal OMB super circular 2 CFR 200; ensure all reporting provisions are met.
- Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of contract terms to facilitate/monitor revenue collection and recording.
- Manage and track temporarily restricted net assets (TRNA) and maintain updated grid of release from restriction.
- Oversee regional agency cash management functions in the development of system-wide cash management policies and procedures.
- Ensure accuracy, review, and approve reconciliations and journal entries prepared by the Senior Accounting staff.
- Annually file for property tax exemption for eligible tax-exempt properties.
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process for the King County region in conjunction with the Agency Directors; monitor progress and keep senior leadership team abreast of the regions financial status.
- Proactively and professionally communicate and present urgent financial matters to the Agency Vice Presidents.
- Act as lead, providing support to and mentoring program managers and staff on budget development, contract monitoring, reporting, and financial and accounting processes.
- Oversee aging reports monthly, ensuring adequate collection efforts are exercised.
- Review and approve write-offs proposed by Program managers for compliance with system-wide policies and procedures; work with Program Managers to determine the collectability of past-due accounts.
- Prepare and audit a ready set of financial statements (all statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules).
- Develop and implement sound operational processing procedures and internal controls for all transaction cycles (cash receipts, cash disbursements, accounts receivable, account payable, payroll, and fixed assets). Develop and implement procedures related to accounting requirements in government-funded contracts.
- Ability to effectively translate and collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university required with a preference in accounting.
- 8 years of career progression, including direct leadership managing an accounting department for multiple accounting transaction cycles.
- 4 years of experience in a nonprofit, government-funded, or social services environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Federal compliance and audit requirements, including Federal OMB super circular 2 CFR 200, with a proven track record of grants management.
- Highly proficient with Excel Spreadsheets, accounting applications, and accounting software.
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands and deadlines with a willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Excellent written, oral, and persuasive communication skills.
- Extensive hands-on experience with various accounting and reporting software, preferably Infor.
- CPA or Masters in Accountancy
- Experience training non-financial staff in financial management, including principles of budgeting, accounting, and fiscal controls.
