What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contract Specialist position at SCJ Alliance?
We are seeking an energetic, experienced, and skilled Contract Specialist to work with our various business groups to prepare and manage project contracts. Working closely with our project and finance teams, you’ll be responsible for contract review, change management, document control, and being the main point of contact for contract-related inquiries. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, and initiative and be able to work with our diverse clientele and subcontractors, be exceptionally attentive to detail, possess strong organizational skills, and understand the critical nature of contract management.

What you’ll be doing
- Interesting and challenging work that builds communities.
- Managing project contracts and subcontracts through their full SCJ lifecycle. You will prepare, review, and edit project contracts with clients, vendors, and subcontractors ensuring that documents meet established standards, regulations, and compliance, as well as confirming that insurance and legal requirements are met, and that internal processes and records are maintained.
- Collaborating with project staff. We expect you to provide ongoing assistance to project staff on contract development and compliance issues, be attentive to schedules and budgets, and be proactive in communication feedback and input where questions or potential risks arise.
- Evaluating and monitoring contract specifications and requirements. It will be your responsibility to continually monitor and evaluate contractor performance against contract specifications, as well as serve as a point of contact both internally and externally for general inquiries regarding contracts, service needs, and reporting.
- Valuing relationships both within and outside of SCJ with strong communication. You will communicate with, build, and maintain productive and professional relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure their needs are met.
- Maintaining records and files. You will coordinate initial project documents, including, but not limited to, submittals and initial contract requirements, ensuring internal contract documents are accurate and well-maintained.
- Honoring confidentiality. You will be expected to professionally manage confidential information.
- Organizing and prioritizing. We’re looking for someone who can organize and successfully complete a variety of contract-related responsibilities for complex projects and manage competing tasks and priorities while still meeting milestones and deadlines.
- Helping elsewhere if needed. On occasion, you will be asked to perform special projects or other job-related duties.

What you bring

- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (i.e., Finance, Business, Business Management) OR five years’ experience as a Contract Specialist in the engineering or similar field.
- Knowledge of contract management principles, practices, terminology, and styles.
- Strong computer skills and Microsoft Office suite proficiency.
- In-depth understanding of project controls, techniques, cost control, earned value, scheduling, and the effect of change.
- Strong writing, editing, and document management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organization.
- The ability to manage multiple projects with shifting deadlines.
- Willingness to adapt and learn.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
