Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer proficient in 3D modeling software, preferably Autodesk Inventor to design and develop sheet metal products. The successful candidate will work closely with existing engineers and fabricators to create detailed models, drawings, and specifications, ensuring high-quality design solutions for manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for sheet metal components and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor
  • Reads and interprets plans to create 3-D models of customer layouts for shop, detail and fabrication drawings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, production staff, and project managers to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Generate accurate bill of materials (BOMs), cut lists, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Adds commonly used parts to a library “Vault” for fast easy access and use.
  • Incorporate material properties, manufacturing processes, and best practices in all sheet metal designs.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation.
  • Provide technical support to the production team during prototyping and manufacturing stages.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related field is preferred. High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 2 years of experience in mechanical design, familiar with sheet metal.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor or at least can become proficient .
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, including bending, cutting, welding, and assembly.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, and material specifications for sheet metal.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of CNC programming and laser cutting techniques.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for BOM and inventory management.
