POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Worker - Skilled

Mission of Department:
To provide Scott County Hospital Associates and Guests with a maintained and comfortable facility.
Purpose of Position: Responsible for maintenance and operation of the physical plant.
Essential Functions:
The responsible individual should act as the Director of Building and Grounds agent in the maintenance, repair and operation of all physical elements of the hospital and its allied properties. Proper techniques and coordination of all activities will ensure the most efficient utilization of the hospital’s physical facilities and provide the best possible environment for the patients.

In association with in-service training programs conducted by the education department and other services throughout the hospital, the individual should maintain training programs that pertain to the department’s primary responsibility and to the continued maintenance of a proper and safe environment for all patient care facilities.

General Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Administers and directs program to maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment and to purchase or assist with purchasing necessary supplies; coordinates these activities with the other departments to insure safe and efficient operation.
Attends in-services as scheduled and may be required to conduct in-services on topics that pertain to the Maintenance Department.
Education, Qualifications, Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Required to read, speak and understand English.
Must have knowledge of electrical and plumbing sections in public buildings and be familiar with safety codes.
Knowledge in the use of hand and power tools required.
Personal Characteristics:
Aptitudes: Verbal ability is required to communicate with staff, contractors, and others, and to keep informed of new developments.
Good visual acuity is required to read and understand blue prints and specifications of new construction, installation, and maintenance of equipment. Ability to analyze and organize.
Interests: A preference for machines and techniques to insure safe, sanitary, and efficient operation of physical plan of hospital complex and its utilities.
Temperaments: Able to make emergency decisions in respect to failure of plant utilities or other delegated responsibilities. Able to comprehend wide range of technical subjects and coordination of details. Ability to work to standards set by applicable national, state, and local building codes.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Sits and walks throughout work days. Stooping and climbing in inspecting and directing work. Handling and manipulating office equipment and materials. Talking and hearing for frequent communication with staff and others. Works inside and outside. Visits all areas of the hospital and supporting facilities. May be required to work long hours in emergencies.
Equipment: A fully equipped shop including assorted sizes of pipe and crescent wrenches, socket sets etc. Safety goggles, tool punch consisting of screw drivers and assorted hand tools, electric drills, electric saws, electric sanders, drill press. Electrical repair and equipment testers.
Expectation of Service: This is a non-exempt 40 hour per week position. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Physical Requirements: Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying 10-50 pounds with occasional lifting/carrying 51-75 pounds; frequent reaching/grasping, twisting, pulling/pushing, exposure to equipment and machinery, exposure to dust and fumes.
Salary : $31,500 - $39,900
