POSITION TITLE: Phlebotomist - Lab Assistant

Department: Laboratory

Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor; CEO

Mission of Department: To provide cost effective accurate test results to health care providers in a timely fashion while always remember patient care is our top priority.

Purpose of Position:

Perform the mission of the department effectively.

Essential Functions:

1. Draws Blood from the patient with proper techniques in hospital, ED, and Clinic settings.
2. Centrifuges blood specimens, prepares specimens for testing, and prepares specimens for send out.
3. Print labels, logs in patients using computer system.
4. Performs waived testing.
5. Requests and order supplies as necessary from Central Supply and Quest.
6. Proficient in Greenway software to help clinic lab.
7. Answers phone, makes necessary calls as requested.
8. Faxes results to proper providers
9. Performs billing procedures as required by Lab Manager.
10. Assists other laboratory personnel as required.

Requirements

Education, Qualifications, Experience:

High School Diploma

Computer knowledge helpful

Medical background helpful

Personal Characteristics:

Good personal hygiene

Neatness in appearance

Honesty & Integrity

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Have working knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and specimen requirements for test performed at Scott County Hospital.

Equipment:

Have a working knowledge of all laboratory equipment and be able to do maintenance and troubleshooting. Know how to contact service personnel for help in equipment malfunctions.

Expectation of Service: This is a non-exempt 40 hour per week position. Regular and punctual attendance is required.  

Physical Requirements: Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying 10-25 pounds; frequent reaching/grasping, twisting, pulling/pushing, frequent exposure to sharp instruments and frequent exposure to equipment. Working irregular hours.
