Scott Credit Union is looking to hire a full-time Collections Specialist to join our amazing Collections team in our Collinsville Branch. This position will be onsite Monday thru Friday normal business hours, with a Saturday rotation schedule.

The Day to Day as the Collections Specialist  

The Collections Specialist’s responsibility involves the collection of all delinquent accounts of consumer, mortgage, and commercial loans. This position is expected to use analytic skills to ensure each situation is handled properly and in compliance with internal and external policies. The Collections Specialist ensures adequate collection efforts are performed to reduce delinquency and mitigate losses while maintaining excellent member service. A typical day will look like:

  • Assist in the collection and recovery of funds owed to Scott Credit Union, which includes but is not limited to Real Estate/Mortgage, Commercial, and Consumer Loans in compliance with the collection policy.
  • Analyze member's situation and collateral risk to present alternative solutions including Forbearance Plans, Repayment Plans, Modifications, Assumptions, Pre-foreclosure/Short Sales, and Deed in Lieu; Assist in identifying, negotiating, and pursuing the appropriate loss mitigation option.
  • Verify that members maintain adequate insurance coverage on the collateral and assist in rectifying, if necessary. 
  • Provides feedback to management for ideas on process improvement and suggestions for the specialty collections unit.
  • Assist in preparing forms and reports for Board Reports and Senior Management.
  • Provide every member with a service that demonstrates respect and knowledge, in a manner that makes the member feel welcome and shows that their business is appreciated.
  • Make suggestions and recommendations to offer solutions to delinquent members when the result is in the best interest of the Credit Union and member.
  • Mail form letters to members to encourage payment of delinquent and overdrawn accounts.
  • Confers with member by telephone in attempt to determine reason for overdue payment, reviewing terms of repayment, security, payroll deduction, or other repayment concern.
  • Records information about financial status of member and status of collection efforts.
  • Suggests foreclosure, repossession, credit privilege cessation or turns over account to Collections management for further action.
  • Sorts and files correspondence.
  • Skip Tracing accounts for possible leads to locate member for contact.
  • Contact members with insufficient or no insurance on the collateral to obtain required insurance coverage or to recommend repossession/exceptions to Scott Credit Union requirement. 
  • Perform as liaison between Collections and SCU insurance company.

To Be Considered, You’ll Need:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years’ experience working in a Collections environment.
  • Personal computer experience to include Microsoft Office Products.

Preferred Qualifications That Could Set You Ahead:

  • Delinquent consumer, mortgage, and commercial loans experience.
  • Experience working with legal counsel. 

Pay Range/Salary Range:

  • The typical pay range for this role is $21.00 to $27.50 per hour.
