The Digital and Information Services Division (DISD) of the Environment and Forestry Directorate sits within DG Net Zero, one of the most important and high profile areas in the Scottish Government. 

 

We are responsible for providing a range services to Ministers, Regulatory Bodies, Cross Governmental Boards, Researchers and Staff of the Scottish Government working in Agriculture and the Rural Economy.  This includes reports that evidence where government money is going, for the effective allocation of funds, ensuring auditability to such agencies as the World Trade Organisation.  Along with supporting a holistic data view of legacy and new applications or delivered services from peers within Digital and Information Services Division and our delivery partners.

 

Staff within DISD provide a full spectrum of IT disciplines required to deliver analysis, build, test and support functions for the systems we deliver.

 

Within the Division sits out Business Intelligence team who are looking for an Business Developer to join them and help to deliver reports, that inform the business to make rapid and economically important judgements and affecting policy outcomes to best serve the people of Scotland.

 

In your role, you will develop and deliver reporting capabilities based on the reporting requirements and analysis that will allow ARE  to better meet its obligations in regard to meeting all reporting commitments.  Including adapting to a reasonable pace of technical change, giving you chances to develop your skills on new systems as well as help contribute to designing the future state.

 

The Business Intelligence Developer will work alongside Agriculture and Rural Economy (ARE) business colleagues, and with DISD analysts on all reports and reporting applications to ensure an effective technical solution is delivered allowing reporting deadlines to be met.

 

ARE works to support Scotland's sustainable economic growth, especially in the rural economy, making the most of Scotland’s environment, natural assets and advantages - its people, landscapes, biodiversity, agriculture, food & drink and animal welfare. Within ARE, DISD is responsible for developing and maintaining the Information Technology systems to support delivery of the functions of ARE.

 

DDaT Pay Supplement

This post attracts a £5,000 per annum pro-rata DDaT Pay Supplement after a 3 month competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of reports services from statutory and regulatory to adhoc.
  • Deliver reporting application development and support using agreed standards and tools.
  • Deliver Design and Test Plans to ensure errors are resolved. Re-tests to achieve an error-free result.
  • Provide assurance for data integrity from identified sources

Essential Criteria & Qualifications

No specific qualifications are required for this post

 

Essential Criteria:

1.  Proven experience of development work based on design specifications.

2.  Proven experience of creating SQL scripts.

3.  Current experience of developing with APEX.

4.  An understanding of the ITIL Service Lifecycle (such as ITIL Foundation qualification) and practical experience of Request Fulfilment.

 

Desirable Criteria:

1.  An understanding of database management system concepts and practices

2.  Practical experience using Oracle databases.

3.  Knowledge of or a desire to Learn Microsoft Power BI

 

Location: Saughton House, Edinburgh, EH11 3XD

 

This post is based in Edinburgh with hybrid working in line with current DISD policies.  You will be expected to be in the office 2 days a month.

 

Interview and Assessment:  Dates to be confirmed

 

Minimum time in post:

You will be expected to remain in post for a minimum of three years unless successful at gaining promotion to a higher Band or Grade.
