The Office of Career Development at South Dakota State University (SDSU) is offering an exciting new career opportunity as a Career Education Coordinator. We are seeking a people-centered professional who demonstrates a commitment to customer service and is dedicated to helping undergraduate and graduate students become career-ready. As the Office of Career Development seeks to grow, engage, and cultivate a career-everywhere culture, the Career Education Coordinator will collaborate with campus partners to ensure scalable best practices of career education and act as a career coach for SDSU students and alumni. This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible, non-faculty exempt position that reports to the Assistant Director of Career Education. Sponsorship is not available for this position.RESPONSIBILITIES:Collaborate with campus partners, including faculty/instructors and academic advisors, to ensure scalable best practices of career education for all students.Design, facilitate, implement, and evaluate curriculum and programs for campus partners to serve the career education needs of students.Create, facilitate, and evaluate career-related presentations for a variety of constituents, including undergraduate and graduate students. Present to academic classes, student organizations, and workshop audiences either in-person or in a virtual format.Provide career education, resources, and tools to a population of students in individual and group sessions through drop-in hours and scheduled appointments, either in-person or in a virtual format. Maintain records of interactions with students.Assist students with career and major exploration, career readiness and development, professional document preparation (resumes/cover letters), interview preparation, internship and job search strategies, and additional career-related needs.Assist students in determining career goals and objectives through self-evaluation, assessment of career interests, and exploration of career paths and majors.Assist students in assessing graduate or professional school paths and with professional or personal statements needed for application to graduate or professional school.Assist in developing, training, and supervising student staff in delivery of career-related content, such as resume reviews and interview preparation.Collaborate with the Career Development team to strategically plan, organize, promote, implement, and evaluate programs, services, initiatives, and events related to career development and student success.Work with the Career Development team to plan, promote, implement, and work at several career fairs, both on- and off-campus. Help identify and market internship, job, and experiential learning opportunities to students.Develop collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders for programming, services, and initiatives related to career development and student success.With a people-centered approach, provide exceptional customer service to all stakeholders.Actively participate in and contribute to student success initiatives and events as identified by departmental and University leadership.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s degree in Student Affairs/Personnel, Counseling, Education, Higher Education Administration, or related field completed by first day of employment.At least one year of experience working in career advising, academic advising, or related experience. (Graduate assistantship and/or related graduate internship experience is acceptable.)Demonstrates a commitment to providing exceptional customer service to all stakeholders.Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in an active, dynamic environment that requires flexibility.Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.Ability to organize, implement, promote, and evaluate programs, events, and projects.Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative partnerships for programming, services, and student-success initiatives.Evidence of strong interpersonal skills with an understanding of and enthusiasm for today’s undergraduate and graduate student experience.Experience with Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, and social media platforms.Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and shifts longer than eight hours.Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience working with career services in higher education.Knowledge of career development theory.
