SE&C is seeking qualified candidates for an Welding Engineer opportunity for our customer in Oak Ridge, TN.
Title: Engineering Specialist (Welding)
Contract Duration: Initial contract duration up to 1-year with potential for a longer-term assignment based on individual performance.
Location: Must be willing to work onsite in Oak Ridge, TN (outside of Knoxville, TN)
Rate: $50-$110/hr. based on experience and qualifications
Hours: 4/10’s

JOB DESCRIPTION
Education
- BS in Welding Engineering or equivalent
Experience
- 7 years of relevant experience required
- Must possess technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers
- Experience in piping, welding procedures, processes, and expertise is required.
- Must be knowledgeable in piping and pump design, HVAC design, general mechanical engineering, and engineering procurement
- Shall have the ability to anticipate change and adjust promptly and effectively
- Must have proven ability to manage multiple work scopes between self-performed work and subcontracted work
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Shall be functional with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook software
- Must have the ability to obtain a "Q" clearance. A clearance is not required to apply for this position.
- Welding certificate is desired.
- Previous experience at DOE facilities is desired
Responsibilities
- Keeps Management advised as to status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems.
- Provides technical assistance and guidance to assigned engineers, architects, scientists, specialists, designers and technicians.
- Assists in the training and evaluation of assigned technical personnel.
- Continually upgrades his/her technical knowledge and capabilities.
- Assures quality, quantity, and completeness of assigned tasks.
- Plans and schedules discipline efforts associated with assignment(s).
- Assures the timeliness and accuracy of oral and written technical reports on assigned discipline activities.
- Maintains proper engineering, architectural, or scientific files and records.
- Performs a variety of other discipline related work, as required
- Serves as consultant to engineering management, providing advice and counsel on special engineering assignments.
- Assists in new business efforts involving specialized engineering applications. Develops preliminary cost estimates and participates in proposal preparation and presentation.
- Prepares and reviews project controls, cost estimates, and staffing requirements for projects, forecasts and change orders.
- Provides technical direction and assigns work to subordinate engineers and others who assist on specific assignments.
- Reviews and checks work.
- Coordinates and monitors the work of unique field engineering activities and of specialized outside consultants. May participate in selection of outside consultants.
- Conducts or leads special studies on economic feasibility, new technologies, methods, or materials
- Requests assistance from senior Engineers, Architects, or Scientists as necessary to comply with the applicable legal requirements on practicing discipline related responsibilities
Job Knowledge
- Broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and of principles and practices of related technical areas.
- Knowledge of current industry or regulatory codes and standards and study criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
- Skill in oral and written communications
Special Job Requirements
Engineer with subject matter expertise in welding to support the Chief Engineer, Project Engineer, Company Projects, and the Engineering Program as necessary and assigned.
· Originates/maintains timely and accurate oral and written technical reports regarding assigned engineering activities
· Assists in the preparation of and reviews project procedures
· Monitors the work of unique field engineering activities related to welding,
· Provides technical assistance and guidance to assigned projects, engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, technicians
· Applies expertise in welding codes, requirements, and techniques to broadly stated technical problems
· Maintains liaison with design and drafting groups
· Reviews and approves documents and drawings as required
· Advises the Project Engineer and Engineering Manager about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems
· Ensures quality, quantity, and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks
· Plans and schedules engineering efforts associated with assigned project
