Job Description:
Sea Dwellers Dive Center of Key Largo, FL is looking for an outgoing, professional dive instructor. We are open to any agency of certification, however we teach SSI and PADI so either would be preferred. We can cross over any instructor as needed. The ideal candidate must be able to perform each duty of the position, and be willing to work in a high-paced environment. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. This position is for a Full-Time Instructor, and can consist of both in-water activities as well as dive shop duties (customer service).
Job Summary:
Sea Dwellers Instructors provide instruction, act as underwater guides, act as first mate, fill & transfer SCUBA tanks daily, and assist with day to day shop duties. Primary roles include mating the boat, instructing, and customer service in the shop. Additional responsibilities include general maintenance and cleaning of the shop and boats, general maintenance and cleaning of all rental gear, among other duties not listed. We teach everything from Discover Scuba up through all levels of professional diving. Instructors will also help out in the shop when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Primary duties are to provide classroom and in-water SCUBA Instruction, guide both divers and snorkelers, work the boats as a first mate, and assist in any dive shop duties such as customer service, emails, phones, etc.
2. Assists with daily check-in process, ensuring accuracy and completion of any and all required documents for instruction and dive/snorkel charters.
3. Utilizes, inspects, and basic repairs of SCUBA equipment.
4. Ability to lift and load SCUBA tanks to and from the boat, and be able to lift 50 pounds, as well as move a dolly with up to 6 scuba tanks at a time.
5. Operate a high pressure compressed air fill station & fill SCUBA tanks.
6. Rescues divers, snorkelers and students potentially in danger of drowning and administers first aid as needed.
7. Inspects boat, equipment, and facility for cleanliness and safety, and take action accordingly.
8. All other duties assigned on an as-needed basis.
Certificates and Licenses:
1. Must be at minimum a certified Open Water Scuba Instructor in active status.
2. Must be able to pass a drug test, join the consortium, and obtain individual professional liability insurance.
3. Cardiopulmonary (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office products specifically word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Additionally, candidates should be proficient in answering customer inquires via phone and email, and follow specific instructions regarding bookkeeping processes.
Customer Service Expectations (Summary):
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to orally communicate clearly and persuasively in both a large formal classroom environment and one-on-one. Sea Dwellers operates in a high paced environment with a wide range of customer demographics, therefore the ability to manage difficult or emotional situations and personal emotions is a must.

Generally required intermittently on a regular basis throughout the workday in a variety of settings.

Generally required intermittently on a regular basis throughout the workday in a variety of settings. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance or 100 pounds with assistance.
You will be required to lift and move many SCUBA tanks on a daily basis, including loading them on and off the boat and trailer.
3. Vision (Close / Distance / Peripheral):
Generally required to work with close/peripheral vision on a regular basis, to include in an underwater environment. Distance vision required periodically. Ability to adjust focus.
4. Manual Dexterity:
Able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. Use computer, office equipment/supplies and basic hand-tools.
