Ship Fitter
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED Diploma.
- Two to three years of experience as a ship fitter in shipyard preferred.
- Experience with reading prints preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes, executes and adheres to the company’s safety program.
- Comprehends blueprints, sketches, and templates.
- Enters and moves through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces.
- Manipulates and operates all machines and hand/power tools essential to this position.
- Uses jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls to align parts.
- Marks the location of holes that need to be drilled and temporary fastens parts in place for welding or riveting.
- May use cutting torch to cut materials or scrap.
- Installs packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories, such as doors, hatches, brackets, and clips.
- May roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, using shop machinery, such as plate rolls, presses, bending brakes, and joggle machines.
- Maintains quality that can pass NDT testing procedures.
- Performs fitting assignments in a safe and efficient manner practicing safety at all times.
- Assists welder to position, align, and fit together plates, structural parts, and weldments to prepare for assembly.
- Holds, positions, and reads tape measure to assist in layout.
- Operates high reaches or man lifts as required when having to perform fitting assignments above ground level.
- Follows instructions, written and/or verbal, with little or no supervision.
- Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straight edges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Cleans up area, picks up scrap, sweeps, and returns all unused materials and supplies.
- Perform other construction duties or task as required based on company’s needs.
