What are the responsibilities and job description for the Main Barn Supervisor -B Shift position at Seaboard Triumph Foods?
SUMMARY: The Main Barn Supervisor is responsible for all animal movement activities loading and unloading the barn pens at the Sioux City Iowa processing facility. Will supervise hourly livestock barn staff and complete other required tasks and activities in the livestock barn area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Activities Related to movement of Market Hogs:
- Supervise the humane movement of market hogs into and out of the Barn Pens.
- Oversee and Preserve the Identity of each lot until sent to Harvest
- Work closely with the USDA to ensure that all hogs that are sent to Harvest have been inspected.
- Ensure compliance with Seaboard Triumph Foods` humane handling policies and procedures from the time market hogs are moved from the unloading area to the Barn area then to the staging area.
- Will require assisting Main Barn personnel in segregating/euthanizing non-ambulatory or injured hogs
- Maintain the atmosphere and facilities of the barn.
- Implement and adhere to segregation requirements.
Activities Related to Supervision of Livestock Barn Staff:
- Supervise the daily activities of the Barn staff.
- Coordinate work schedules for the livestock Barn staff.
- Administer all human resource policies and procedures required at the supervisor level for the livestock Barn staff.
- Supervise and coordinate the training of livestock Barn staff.
- Initial and ongoing training on all aspects of STF`s livestock humane handling policies and procedures.
Other Required Tasks and Activities:
- Supervise and ensure compliance with the clean-up and sanitation procedures for the livestock Barn pen areas.
- Complete all required audit forms.
- Maintain the facilities and equipment in good working condition; notify maintenance personnel of any needed repairs.
- Supervise the feeding of all hogs held for more than 24 hours.
- Supervise or complete other tasks as directed by the Livestock Superintendent.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the work environment, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required or preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Four or more year`s related experience in pork processing plants with experience that enables performance in all aspects of the position, including supervisory experience. Well-developed management skills utilizing sound management principles in leading a team of employees.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required. Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with USDA Inspection team.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Strong mathematical skills with the ability to apply to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems. Display patience if faced with any Animal Welfare complex situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use computers with the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and must be able to effectively work in a normal production environment where temperatures and noise levels may vary as well as an opportunity to work in and around live hogs.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management.
