Position Title: Dispatcher

Reports To: Operations Manager

Hours: Rotating

Education:High School or equivalent

Experience: 2 years or more in administrative support role.

Skills/Software:Heavy Phones, Reception/Greeting. Comfort in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook on a daily basis.

Traits:Ability to work well with others, strong communication skills (in particular, over the phone), assertive.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience: Previous dispatching experience or experience working in the maritime industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties of the job are (but not limited to):

  • Answer office telephone and distribute information as needed.
  • Prepare daily work sheet for scheduled vessel movements.
  • Phone agents to check on vessel traffic daily.
  • Phone pilot office to check on vessel traffic daily.
  • Dispatch jobs according to VTS (Vessel Traffic System).
  • Document jobs in daily logbook and online.
  • Work closely with Operations Manager and Operations Coordinator to effect timely/most advantageous use of company equipment/crews.
  • Call Operations Manager or Coordinator after hours when important decisions must be made on the company's behalf that are beyond scope of standard responsibilities.
  • Report any, and all, accidents/emergencies to relevant management.
  • Assist with other office duties as needed.
